For context, the ARK Survival Ascended Abberation DLC was scheduled to launch in July 2024, but was pushed back to September 2024. This will no doubt have a knock on impact for the remaining DLC maps schedule to launch in 2024 and 2025.

Although we don’t have an official release date, the ARK Survival Ascended roadmap - which is subject to change - expects the Fjordur DLC update to launch in October 2024.

This release date is quite far away, and while it may disappoint players who had Fjordur as a personal favorite DLC, there will be various other expansions and DLCs that arrive between now and then, so we won't be too pressed for things to do in ARK Survival Ascended. Of course, this release date is still speculative, so once we get confirmation for a solid release date, we'll be sure to update you accordingly.

Will the Fjordur Map Be Free for ARK Survival Ascended?

To answer this question directly, yes, the Fjordur DLC expansion map will indeed be free for all ARK Survival Ascended players, similarly to all the other DLCs that will be released for the game over the next two years. The reason for this is that the developers want to give players who have already purchased them on ARK Survival Evolved access to them in Ascended, and the fact that Fjordur is an expansion map, not a fully-fledged canonical DLC.

There will likely be some cosmetic paid-for items, similar to the Frontier Adventure pack that comes with the Scorched Earth DLC. Fjordur might implement a similar model, giving players some cool new skins and item cosmetics that do not impact gameplay and are purely aesthetic. Of course, we will keep this section updated in case their model changes, or we get a breakdown of the items and cosmetics for sale.

What to Expect from Fjordur in ARK Survival Ascended

As the name Fjordur suggests, this DLC expansion map takes its design inspiration from the Nordic world and mythology, sporting icy regions, dense forests, and countless cave systems to explore. There are also 3 sub-maps accessible via portals: Jotunheim (an ice realm), Vanaheim (a forest realm), and Asgard (a land of fields with deserted buildings) which each have a similar setup to the domes in Extinction or the separated biomes of the first Genesis DLC.

Alongside this expansive map come new creatures as well, specifically the Desmodus, Andrewsarchus, Fjordhawk, and Fenrir, each of which was exclusive to this DLC. Now, of course, some of these creatures might be removed or reworked, and new dinosaurs might even be added to increase the list of unique creatures on Fjordur, so be sure to stay tuned for more details on the creatures we expect to see.

ARK Survival Ascended Fjordur Creature Vote Winner

Given that Fjordur is still such a long way from its release in ARK Survival Ascended, the voting polls for the Fjordur creature vote have yet to open, and as such, no new creature has yet been announced for the DLC. The last new creature added to the map was the Desmodus Draculae, and while it was quite popular upon release, many players are keen to enter new dinos into the running, so we will have to wait and see regarding this new creature once the voting polls open up for Fjordur.

Will Fjordur's New Dinos Come To The Island?

Similarly to the other DLCs, we expect that exclusive creatures such as the Desmodus and Fenrir will not be transferable to the base game map, the Island. Other creatures such as the base creatures or Aberrant creatures of Fjordur will likely be transferrable via Obelisks, TEK Transmitters, or spawnable via console commands. For now, though, we'll just have to wait and see how the dino transfers work between DLCs and The Island of the Base game.
