You might feel the darkness calling you into a WWE 2K24 Casket Match right out of the gate, but this new match type comes with its own controls and challenges. Before you dive into a championship Casket Match, it's good to know exactly what you're up against.
Here, we'll explain everything you need to know about the WWE 2K24 Casket Match controls. If you're struggling to pick up a win in one, we've also got some WWE 2K24 tips and tricks to help lock your opponent in that casket and take the victory.
WWE 2K24 Casket Match Controls Explained
While most of what you'll be doing in a Casket Match comes from the core WWE 2K24 controls as you wear your opponent down, actually finishing things will be a bit different. Before you even begin the match, there is one gameplay setting which could be massively beneficial to change.
If you ever find yourself tiring during button-mashing mini games, like when a submission is locked on, there's a way to relieve that struggle. Go into Gameplay Options from the main WWE 2K24 menu and you'll find an accessibility feature named "ALLOW HELD INPUT FOR MINI-GAMES." Turning this on will have you press and hold the mini-game button instead of rapidly tapping. While it won't work online, this will be active everywhere else in WWE 2K24 and can make a huge difference.
Once you're in a Casket Match, the first step is actually opening the casket. You can do this from the floor while standing beside the casket or tap RB or R1 to step onto the apron beside the casket, and in both cases you should see an LB or L1 prompt to open the casket. After it's opened, both you and your opponent could be thrown into the casket, so keep it closed until you're ready to go for the win.
To get your opponent in a casket, you need to Irish Whip them (B or Circle to Grab then B or Circle with Left Stick towards the Casket) into it. You can do this on the floor while standing below the casket or while in the ring, where you send them into the casket from won't matter as you try to close it.
When you're opponent is laying in the casket, you need to approach it on the apron or on the outside and press LB or L1 to begin closing the casket. This will trigger the match-ending mini-game to see if you can actually get the lid shut.
How to Win a Casket Match in WWE 2K24
Most of the same fundamentals and strategies you use in other WWE 2K24 matches will translate to a Casket Match, but ultimately you need to be far more on guard when you're struggling. As a Casket Match wears on, the damage to your character will make it easier and easier to be at risk should you get thrown into the casket.
If you're not ready to take the win, keep it closed. This will add a step of having to open it before you can get thrown in, and sometimes that's just enough time for you to recover and shift the momentum of the match in your favor. You also risk being thrown off and giving your opponent a brief opening if you try to shut the lid on them and fail.
While hitting a finisher or signature, or even a Super Finisher, isn't required before you throw someone into the casket, doing so can lead to a Stunned state. This is critical as it won't allow your opponent to reverse the Grab and Irish Whip needed to throw them into the casket.
It may also keep them down long enough for you to go open a closed casket and still have time to throw them in. If you're still having trouble (and don't want to simply lower the Gameplay Difficulty), you may just need to practice with other superstars and see if a different move-set or different combos help you find a groove.
