Knuckles, the spin-off limited series from the Sonic film franchise, has achieved a new record for its streaming home, Paramount+. In a rare move, the streaming platform revealed this feat this past weekend, as the series broke a streaming record while setting one along the way.
This latest record-setting news for Paramount+ and the Sonic franchise is hugely positive, as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is scheduled for release on 20th December 2024. The Knuckles limited series, which dropped all episodes on Paramount+ on 26th April 2024, is set between the events of Sonic 2 and 3 and follows the Echidna warrior on a journey of self-discovery.
The limited series saw British actor Idris Elba returning to voice the tough yet headstrong Knuckles the Echidna as the titular character attempts to adjust to his life in Green Hills while mentoring the ways of a proud Echidna warrior to his human friend, Wade. According to the streaming platform, the Knuckles limited series had clocked in over four million hours of watch time on Paramount+ within the first few days of its release on 26th April 2024.
As such, Knuckles became the most viewed IP under the Family category for the streaming platform, which also saw viewership increases for other Sonic titles that gained a viewership boost of up to 278% as a daily average. According to a statement from Paramount+ Executive Vice President of Programming Jeff Grossman to Variety, “The ‘Sonic the Hedgehog fans came out in full force."
"We’re so thrilled with the record-breaking performance of ‘Knuckles’ and the incredible lift the whole Sonic universe has experienced following ‘Knuckles” premiere.” Given the success of the Knuckles limited series, Paramount+ has since released the first episode, which can be watched for free on the Paramout+ Global YouTube channel, depending on local availability.
