Crossovers in fighting games are quite popular and common these days, as they are a great way to attract attention to your game and expand your fan base to a different audience. Therefore, it's understandable that a recent tweet from Tekken 8 executive producer Katsuhiro Harada, making some vague gestures toward the Mortal Kombat franchise, raised players' eyebrows.
However, this comes with the significant caveat that there is no concrete evidence for it. But, of course, the internet being the internet, fanbases began speculating. So, let's discuss the tweet details below and what has led many to believe that a Mortal Kombat x Tekken crossover might be on the horizon.
Players Suspect Mortal Kombat DLC Character Is Coming To Tekken After Producer's Cryptic Tweets
As mentioned earlier, on July 16, 2024, Tekken 8 executive producer Katsuhiro Harada posted a tweet that simply read, "Get over here!" If you've played Mortal Kombat at all, seen the game in passing, or heard about it via internet osmosis, you'll know this is the iconic one-liner from the character Scorpion in any MK game.
GET OVER HERE!!!!!!

In addition, Harada responded to an infamous fighting game player (though the internet straight-up calls him a troll) named 6Arakin, who was banned from Mortal Kombat 1. Harada wrote: "I represent the Mishima Zaibatsu, so I can control even the Mortal Kombat account… can I? Could I? If so, I can move between worlds in the Multiverse? Nice!” This response is quite hilarious to me, especially if you know anything about 6Arakin and his notorious reputation, making the ban likely well-deserved.
As we mentioned at the start, these tweets aren't exactly evidence and fall more into the realm of pure speculation, or at best, circumstantial. However, this hasn't stopped fans from getting excited about the possibility. Many Twitter comments have expressed enthusiasm for the idea.
Hey, hold on a second.

You can't just toy with my feelings like that!
“I would laugh so hard (and also be so happy),” one user responded to the post. “Hey, hold on a second. You can’t just toy with my feelings like that!” another said. “MK x Tekken guest fighter?” another posed. Fans aren't unreasonable for wanting this, given that Tekken has collaborated with Street Fighter in the past but never with Mortal Kombat, which would make it a groundbreaking crossover.
With EVO 2024 coming up soon (July 19th-21st), such a crossover announcement would be spectacular. However, we can't guarantee or confirm anything at the time of writing. All we can say is that this crossover would be extremely well-received by the fan bases of both games, and both game studios should at least consider this as a strong indicator of how positively this kind of crossover would be welcomed by fighting game fans worldwide.
