Resident Evil 4 has one of the most terrifying creature designs in the history of the series. Whether it's the Garradors with their claws or the Regeneradors with their terrifyingly long arms, there's always something waiting at every turn of the game to creep you out.
Bosses are no less, and one of the most challenging and terrifying ones in the game is Verdugo. Thankfully, you don't have to beat it to proceed with the story, though if you do, you will get the 'Wave Goodbye, Right Hand' trophy or achievement. As such, here's our guide explaining how to beat Verdugo in Resident Evil 4.
How to beat Verdugo in the Resident Evil 4 remake
Verdugo is easily the hardest boss in Resident Evil 4, especially in terms of the damage you have to deal to take it down. It's also why there is an option to escape the battle partway through by using the elevator, but that's not something you want to do, right?
The Verdugo boss fight takes place in an underground laboratory with extremely narrow corridors, a classic RE boss arena. As mentioned above, this boss isn't easy to take down, and you must bring out the big guns.
If you have the Rocket Launcher in your inventory, now is the time to use it. Magnums are also a great choice. Verdugo deal crippling damage with its claws and tails (which aren't easy to parry), so it's best to keep your distance. It also means that you should avoid any short-range weapons like Shotguns.
The best way to take down Verdugo is to lure it into these side panels scattered around the arena. Switch on the panel to drop liquid nitrogen on Verdugo. Just make sure you activate it a few seconds before the boss shows up, or else you will be the victim of the chemical.
The liquid nitrogen effect will temporarily freeze Verduo, allowing you to deal a devastating melee attack. Once it's back up, fire using your most powerful weapons. The ice effect will slow Verdugo down but not stop it, so continue to keep some distance.
Verdugo will often escape the arena and slither through the vents above and below you. It will try and jump at you, so be cautious and get ready to avoid its attack as soon as the evade prompt appears on the screen.
There are a bunch of these liquid nitrogen panels in the boss arena, so keep moving and luring the Verdugo into them. Do not let it corner you at any cost or say goodbye to that hidden trophy.
Follow these tips, and Verdugo should be out soon. Once it's out of business, the rightfully deserved 'Wave Goodbye, Right Hand' trophy or achievement will be yours.
