How Big is No Man's Sky Map? Size Estimation

Being a vast exploration space title, No Man's Sky players always wonder what's the map size of the game's universe. No Man's Sky was released back in 2016, and the game map size is continuously expanding with the release of updates.

In fact, No Man's Sky boasts the largest game map compared to all other video games, and embarking on a journey to explore the entire universe is no small feat. So without any further ado, here's a look at the No Man's Sky map size, along with some other facts.

No Man's Sky features a massive universe boasting 18 quintillion planets. The game's universe contains galaxies with a massive number of stars, far more than the Milky Way. On average, each game galaxy has 14 quadrillion stars and approximately 72 quadrillion planets, which is still a staggering number.

This number is made possible by the use of an unassigned 64-bit integer, which is the largest number that can be stored. However, visiting every planet in the game is an almost impossible feat, as it would take 585 billion years to do so.

Moreover, walking around a planet with the same size as Earth may seem easy, but it would take approximately 8,300 hours to complete one full lap of a planet in the game. However, the game features a jetpack and faster walking speeds, making it easier to travel across different locations.

To further blow your mind, let's compare the No Man's Sky map size to things in our own lives. The average human body has 37.2 trillion cells, which would take 495,880 humans to fill every planet in the game.

At the same time, Earth has an estimated 7.5 quintillion grains of sand, far fewer than the game's 18 quintillion planets. Furthermore, approximately 20 quintillion organisms are living on Earth alone, making the number of planets in the game unconquerable. Even with an estimated 100 octillion stars in the universe, the number of planets in No Man's Sky remains far greater.
