NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games dropped an announcement trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, revealing our first official look at some of the brutal Fatalities players can anticipate. While the short trailer didn't offer anything in terms of actual gameplay, the cinematics showed us plenty of gory details, from skull crushing to eye gouging to one poor soul being sliced in two.
Ahead of its September release, players who pre-order certain editions of the game will receive early access, as well as the chance to join the Mortal Kombat 1 Beta set to take place this August. Pre-order editions include the typical Standard Edition, available both physically and digitally and will offer access to the Beta. Players can also get their hands on the Premium Edition or the special Mortal Kombat 1 Kollector's Edition, both of which offer early access and Beta access.
With pre-orders now live across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch, where does this leave last-gen players hoping for a PS4 or an Xbox One release?
Is Mortal Kombat 1 Coming to PS4 and Xbox One?
According to an FAQ posted to the official Mortal Kombat website, the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
All versions of Mortal Kombat 1 are being built on NetherRealm Studios technology, with the NetherRealm team developing both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. QLOC will be handling the Steam and Epic Games Store versions, while Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive will be developing the Nintendo Switch version.
Sadly, both PS4 and Xbox One players will be missing out on this one, with Mortal Kombat 1 being the latest game to focus entirely on current generation systems.
