Following the remarkable success of Helldivers in 2015, anticipation was high for the sequel, Helldivers 2, with players eager to discover if the developers could surpass their initial triumph. Thankfully, the game has lived up to expectations, garnering incredibly positive feedback from the fanbase and critics alike for its bold and successful transition from a top-down shooter to a third-person shooter.
Now that the game is in the hands of players, there's naturally a curiosity about what lies ahead for the game in the coming months and beyond. So in this guide, let's explore everything we know about future content additions, updates, and more for Helldivers 2 in 2024.

Confirmed Helldivers 2 Roadmap Overview For 2024
At the time of writing, there is no official roadmap for Helldivers 2.
That being said, we know that the game will include regular new Warbond battle passes, which will be added to the game on the second Thursday of every month.
If you're wondering why the game hasn't got a roadmap, it's because it's likely been completely ripped up. CEO of Arrowhead and Creative Director of the game Johan Pilestedt stated on Twitter that: "...Ironically. A roadmap was on our roadmap... But then our roadmap changed to prioritize the matchmaking issue. There will be one, but we don't want to spoil story beats with it."
Pilestedt has also stated that "Our old roadmap is very out of date in comparison to what we now want to do".
Of course, this doesn't 100% confirm that a roadmap will be here anytime soon, but it's a good indication that it's on the devs' minds and even something prominent on the mind of the CEO of the company, which is always a good sign.
Leaked and Datamined Future Updates
So far we know of three key updates coming to the game:
What Have The Devs Said Is Coming In The Future?
A previous comment from devs on the official PlayStation Blog provided some insight into what we can expect for the future of Helldivers 2.
In the blog, they state: "There’s so much more to come as we expand the game’s content offering. We’re excited to confirm that as players fight in the Galactic War, they will also witness events unfold through our planned free updates. The universe of Helldivers 2 will grow and change to give our players refreshed gameplay, introducing new tools, new challenges, and new threats from around the galaxy."
It's also worth noting that any future updates could still be quite far away. On February 14 Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt took to Twitter seeking "more amazing developers" who can "help accelerate and beef up our content plans".
This either means they want to accelerate how quickly they can release any pre-planned future content for the game, or they want to bolster plans to get started on adding more content. Either way, there's certainly a hunger to capitalize on the huge success the game has seen at launch.
Will Updates For Helldivers 2 Be Free?
Additionally, the Discord announcements also noted what the future of the game might hold as they state "We are constantly going to add more stuff to the game." The new additions mentioned by the developer are more ‘Enemies, objectives, biomes, etc." And what's most exciting about all of this is that no mention of any paid-for features has been disclosed, meaning we can expect tons of free content on the horizon.
Johan Pilestedt also took to Twitter to address any of the concerns players might have around paid-to-win features and stated "I'm partial but we applied ourselves to not make it p2w even though items are functionally different. The only item that's p2w is the revolver - which will win you any "cool gun" competition. The only (minor) problem is that it's not that good." So if we were to take this at face value, it means that most of the content to come will be free, and any paid features will be carefully curated to not break the balance of the game.
New Gameplay Features
Lastly, Johan Pilestedt also replied to quite a few other tweets regarding the gameplay features the devs have planned for the future, and which ones they have to put on the back burner for now. Features such as multi-squad raids, 8/16 players in a mission, and helmets having heat or night vision had to be tabled as they were not currently in the scope of development.
Excitingly, Armor color customization was touched on as a feature that the CEO would bring to the table with the devs, and we could see it implemented in the future, but no promises, as he states. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg for what we can expect to come, and with a refreshingly honest development team and CEO who are so willing to share insight and plans for the game's future, we're looking forward to what comes next.
So there you have it, a comprehensive look at the content, updates, features, and roadmap we expect to see for Helldivers 2 in 2024. Of course, a lot of this information is still speculative, and we will endeavor to keep you updated with more official news once it becomes available, so for now, take it all with a grain of salt and sit tight for more news to come on Helldivers 2.
