During the 20th Xbox Anniversary celebration, Microsoft and 343 Industries unleashed Halo Infinite's multiplayer beta in a not-so-surprising move. While there are some known issues and bugs, and fans aren't exactly happy about the battle pass progression system, prospective Spartans are jumping into the game in droves. We've already covered the multiplayer maps at launch, and now it is time to take a look at all the Halo Infinite multiplayer game modes.
In this article, we explain not only which modes are available in the Halo Infinite multiplayer "beta" aka Season 1, but also take a look at which maps you can play specific modes on.
All Halo Infinite multiplayer modes
When you first log into Halo Infinite's multiplayer beta, you will find four options, from the competitive Ranked mode to Bot Bootcamp, Big Team Battles and Quick Play. These are, however, not the game modes, but rather the playlists.
In total, there are seven actual game modes in Halo Infinite at the start of the multiplayer beta. Check out the list below as well as a quick explanation of each game mode, most of them being very self-explanatory.
- Capture the Flag - Objective-based game mode, where teams compete to bring a flag, taken from the opposing team base to a predetermined area.
- Slayer - Kill as many players as you can. The team or player with the most kills win.
- One Flag CTF - One team is on the offensive, while the other team is on the defensive. Plays out in rounds, with teams switching sides halfway through.
- Total Control - Teams fight to control three areas on a map. When all three areas are controlled by one team, that team scores a point.
- Stockpile - Teams fight for four neutral flags which appear randomly throughout a map. Players will need to return these flags to their respective capture points to score.
- Oddball - The main objective here is to see who can pick up and possess a skull (the ball) for the longest period of time in a map, scoring points the longer you hold onto it.
- Strongholds - This Halo Infinite game mode tasks teams with capturing and holding three areas on a map. A team must hold at least two of the three areas before they can accumulate points.
Not all of Halo Infinite's multiplayer game modes are available on all maps, or via all the playlists.
