The Hidden Strife event is one of several new activities included in the Genshin Impact 2.8 update, Summer Fantasia. This event will see Travelers revisiting the Dawn Winery estate in Mondstadt; however, Diluc is out on business.
During the event, we'll explore the backstory of Diluc's past through a series of illusions by investigating an unusual phenomenon occurring nearby. This guide will assist Travelers in how to complete the prologue quest, Phantom of the Past, for the Hidden Strife event in Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact Hidden Strife – Phantom of the Past
Before delving into the main section of the Hidden Strife event, Travelers must complete the prologue quest, Phantom of the Past. Doing so will unlock the entire event as you can start completing a new challenge available daily.
Before playing through the Phantom of the Past quest, there are a few pre-requisites you'll need to have:
- An Adventure Rank of 25 and higher
- Completed the Archon Quest "Prologue: Act III - Song of the Dragon and Freedom."
- Completed Diluc's Story Quest "Noctua Chapter: Act I - Darknight Hero's Alibi."
How to complete the Phantom of the Past quest?
Once you have met the event's specific requirements, you can progress with the Phantom of the Past quest by heading to Dawn Winery in Mondstadt. Upon arrival, meet with Adelinde, who will inform you that Diluc is at Falcon Coast to tend to some issues.
You can use the Teleport Waypoint east of the Statue of the Seven at Windrise as the closest POI to Falcon Coast. Once at the location, you will spot a camp along the beach where you can find a letter and a notebook; you'll discover that the author of the letter had addressed himself as a friend of Diluc.

Addressed in his note, he reveals that he has seen something terrible before departing. You will then investigate the unusual disturbance, which happened to be a red ley line. Some enemies will spawn, and Diluc will appear wearing something unfamiliar to the Traveler and Paimon.
Appearing before the Traveler and Paimon, Diluc is wearing the Red Dead of Night outfit as you'll need to defeat the enemies; this triggers a cutscene. By then, Diluc would have disappeared, leading them to assume that what they had seen were mere illusions from Diluc's past.
This will complete the prologue quest, and you'll receive 20,000 Mora and Hero's Wit as rewards. This unusual ley line can be used to enter the Hidden Strife event as you will have unlocked the event-exclusive Teleport Waypoint in Falcon Coast to travel to the event easily.
From the event's menu, there are two modes you can complete each challenge on, Vicious Battle and Dire Straits. To unlock the Dire Straits mode, you'll need to finish the daily challenge on Desperate difficulty in Vicious Battle; playing on Desperate difficulty allows you to earn rewards for the lower difficulties.
Throughout the event, there are various objectives you'll need to meet, which gives you access to buffs unique to the event. These buffs can aid you in assembling the best party line-up as they'll help you overcome more formidable enemies within the allocated time.
