With Genshin Impact's 2.9 and 3.0 updates fast approaching, more information has been circulating online about the game's upcoming region, Sumeru, and its corresponding element, Dendro. As speculations continue to be the talking point within the Genshin Impact community, developer HoYoverse officially announced the Dendro element in a stunning new preview trailer.
Travelers are well aware that thus far, the only confirmed reaction Dendro has is with the Pyro element, which causes the Burning effect. We've previously discussed Dendro's reactions with the Electro and the Intensified effect and Hydro with the Overgrown effect; however, in the preview trailer, these effects were renamed Catalyze and Bloom, respectively.
HoYoverse debut Dendro element preview trailer
According to the game's combat designer, Bloom (previously leaked as Overgrown), caused by the elemental reactions between Dendro and Hydro, was essentially "inspired by the real-life phenomenon of flowers blooming." This elemental reaction is a "combination of the recovery aspect of the Hydro element and the catalysis concept of the Dendro element."
As previously leaked, Bloom will summon a seed-like object after Hydro is applied with Dendro, causing an explosive AoE DMG to nearby enemies. What Travelers could use the seed for and how significant it would be for this reaction has yet to be determined.
The Catalyze effect (previously leaked as Intensified) was created from the elemental reactions between Dendro and Electro. According to the game's combat designer, this effect stems from the contact of the Electro element's energy aspect and Dendro's wisdom concept.
Its reaction engulfs enemies in a Dendro-hued aura that deals Electro DMG to enemies; however, its duration is still unknown as of writing. Additionally, it was revealed during the preview trailer that there would be "area-specific gameplay" for the Sumeru region included in the 3.0 update involving the three confirmed elemental reactions: Burning, Bloom, and Catalyze.

One of these "area-specific gameplay" features is Polymorphic Transformation, a concept granting certain enemies Dendro characteristics. Their reactions with either Pyro, Hydro, or Electro elements create various transitions between states which causes varying effects.
This also translates to various monsters being gifted similar features to Polymorphic Transformation, which depends on the environments and elemental effects to which you've been exposed. These monsters, too, will move back and forth between states which results in changes in attack, and defeating them under specific conditions can reward you with valuable items.
HoYoverse has yet to announce the official release date for the 3.0 update, which will likely introduce the Sumeru region and the Dendro element. This will also mark the arrival of the game's first Dendro characters, who have been teased in previous leaks.
