EVO is the biggest annual event on the Fighting Game Community (FGC) calendar each year. While the live event had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers have now revealed the EVO Online 2020 lineup, dates, and tournaments.
EVO Online lineup
EVO Online will feature special exhibitions and content for EVO 2020's original lineup, with the exception of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, judging by the EVO Online reveal trailer:
- Under Night In-Birth
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Tekken 7
- Street Fighter V Champion Edition
- SoulCalibur VI
- Samurai Shodown
- Granblue Fantasy Versus.
"For over 20 years, EVO has brought together people who love fighting games. We're going to continue that tradition. Introducing...EVO Online."
While some might be disappointed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn't on the list of exhibitions or tournaments, this is likely due to the Nintendo's online issues causing the whole community to rally on Twitter in April.
EVO Online tournaments
While tournament format, prize pool, and just about everything else are unknown at the time of writing, we do know EVO Online will feature five weekends of fighting games. The tournament of champions was also mentioned, but no details have been provided.
There will be four open online tournaments, namely:
- Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath
- Killer Instinct
- Them's Fightin' Herds
- Skull Girls 2nd Encore
This is an interesting lineup for EVO Online tournaments, as the original lineup didn't feature Mortal Kombat 11 at all.
Keep in mind the original lineup was revealed before the Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath DLC announcement.
EVO Online dates
While more information on the tournaments, as well as signups, will be revealed "soon", we know the EVO Online dates. The FGC can now use a permanent marker on their calendar.
