His armband proved he was a red, the song goes, and while Fernando Torres ultimately didn't lift a single trophy with Liverpool, he earned the hearts of millions of passionate fans across the world.

The Kid indeed spent most of his days as a professional footballer with his boyhood club, Atlético Madrid, but no one can deny his prime came when he travelled abroad to England and represented a Liverpool side filled with iconic stars.

Spending only three and a half seasons with the Reds, Torres saw his peak coming during the 2007-08 season, his first one, netting 33 goals in all competitions. 

Injuries would set him back in the coming years, and when the Reds decided to cash in on the Spaniard by selling him to Chelsea, his goal proficiency never recovered.

He only scored 20+ goals in one of his remaining 10 seasons as a pro, and it was in a lengthy year where he played a total of 64 games. Granted, in terms of silverware, Torres flourished, lifting two Europa Leagues, one Champions, and an FA Cup, but he was seldom a key component of those victories.

With his national team, Torres never really managed to overtake David Villa as the main goal threat but was still an important part of Spain's dominant period, in which they won two Euros, and the 2010 World Cup.
