One of them is Axel Witsel, the Belgian defensive midfielder who's failed to become an elite superstar, nonetheless, has been a rock-solid player for the likes of Zenit, and more recently, Borussia Dortmund.

After spending a couple of seasons away from Europe playing in the Chinese Super League for Tianjin Quanjian, Witsel was signed by Dortmund ahead of the 2018-19 season. His performances earned him a Team of the Season nod at the end of the year, as he helped the German side to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, missing out on the title by just two points.
