Final Fantasy VII Remake has continued to spur conversation within its community on what the game will look and play using elements from its original release. Thanks to a player-created photo mode mod, the community need not wait much longer as a fan video published online has recaptured the original game's essence.
The video makes dreams come true for players who still missed Final Fantasy VII's more nostalgic camera setting. This also makes it possible for modders to bring this dream to life with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade now available on PC.
Photo Mode mod restore original FFVII camera angles
A fan-made video uploaded to YouTube showed off the original camera positioning in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Posted on the Final Fan TV YouTube channel earlier this week, the footage recaptured the nostalgia of the original 1997 release with the 2020 remake with stunning results.
The six-minute-long video features the opening sequence from the original Final Fantasy VII game and the remake where the protagonist, Cloud Strife, infiltrates a Shinra mako reactor alongside members of AVALANCHE.
Using the Universal Unreal Engine Unlocker (UUU) mod, the Final Fan TV team repositioned Final Fantasy VII Remake's camera to the fixed view from the original, which looks just as good as the original game.
Capturing similar shots of Cloud and the AVALANCHE members, the environments in Midgar, and the enormous Shinra facility, Final Fantasy VII Remake's new camera perspective showcases the massive scale of the game's redesign.
The video also included transitions and a battle scene which plays like the original game only with improved visuals. The combat system depicted in the video looks like the original game, using the classic turn-based JRPG mechanics.
According to the Final Fan TV team, the video shows that the Remake can be "fully playable" using the original game's fixed cameras instead of the over-the-shoulder camera perspective. They also hope this further propels the modding community to develop a game mode for Final Fantasy VII Remake using the UUU mod.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is currently available for PlayStation 4 & 5, with a recent release for PC via the Epic Games Store in December 2021.
