On January 17, 2024, Bethesda revealed that a new mobile game is in the process of being rolled out to select regions. The Elder Scrolls: Castles will see players manage a dynasty, watching the growth and changes that effect their citizens. Each real time day equals a year in the world of The Elder Scrolls: Castles and, as Bethesda themselves put it, "Citizens are born, they die, rulers change, and can be betrayed."
The gameplay seems akin to that of Bethesda's other popular mobile title, Fallout Shelter, where players will be building rooms with designated purposes, allowing its inhabitants to produce resources and level up their skills.
"We’re excited to finally share The Elder Scrolls: Castles, our new mobile game from the team behind Fallout Shelter. The team has been hard at work on it for the last few years and we absolutely adore it," the studio's statement read.
Is New Bethesda Title The Elder Scrolls's Answer To Fallout Shelter?
From the few in-game images currently available it seems that, like Fallout Shelter, players will be able to send their citizens out on quests for valuable items and resources, engage and fight with enemies, and place various rooms to build out their castle.
But for those worried that The Elder Scrolls: Castles will be too similar to Fallout Shelter, it seems some unique mechanics could also be on the way. Judging from in-game images, it seems players will be deciding on and enacting certain rules and decision that effect the storyline of your dynasty.
For now, The Elder Scrolls: Castles is only available in select locations. The first area to be announced was the Philippines with Bethesda clarififying that it "will be available to more countries in the coming months."
