College Football 25 has revived a long-missed franchise, and players are slowly honing their skills and learning (or re-learning) all the different ways to play. Even if you've got a grasp on the basic controls, some of the more advanced variations aren't easily explained in the game. We'll go over every pass type and how to do them in this College Football 25 passing controls guide.
College Football 25 Passing Controls
Once the ball snaps into your quarterback's hands, you'll only have a few precious seconds to make a decision on what to do next. First, here are the basic College Football 25 controls while passing:
Offensive Action | Xbox Series X|S Controls | PS5 Controls |
Free Form on Placement | Hold LT while aiming pass | Hold L2 while aiming pass |
High Pass Modifier | Hold LB while passing | Hold L1 while passing |
Scramble | Hold RT and move Left Stick | Hold R2 and move Left Stick |
Throw Ball Away | Press Right Stick | Press R3 |
Throw Pass to Receiver | Press Y, X, B, A, or RB | Press Triangle, Square, Circle, X, or R1 |
Playmaker | Move Right Stick | Move Right Stick |
Pump Fake | Double Tap Y, X, B, A, or RB | Double Tap Triangle, Square, Circle, X, or R1 |
Every situation is different, but you'll generally be deciding whether you should scramble out of the pocket, pass to a receiver, or throw the ball away. Free Form on Placement will expand your aiming area, and High Pass Modifier lets you push the arc of of any pass type higher in hopes of avoiding a interception around a crowded receiver. In recent years, Madden games had a Low Pass Modifier as well using LT/L2, but it appears to have been removed entirely for the addition of placement control. Even if you're using Classic Passing, the only control scheme without placement, using LT/L2 doesn't appear to affect the passing arc.
On top of these options that pertain to the pass itself, Playmaker lets you move the right stick to reposition the receiver nearest to your player. This is most handy in scramble situations where you can send a receiver towards an open part of the field to create a play despite tough coverage. No matter the moment, executing the primary three pass types is all down to the duration of your button press.
How to Lob Pass
If you're looking to go deep and wanna give your receiver a chance to create some space while the ball floats in the air, try only tapping the receiver icon. No matter which receiver you're aiming for, quickly tap and release the button without holding it down for any duration of time to execute a lob pass.
How to Bullet Pass
Any time you need to get the ball to a receiver as quickly as possible, hold down their receiver icon during the entire pass motion. This ensures you're throwing a bullet pass, and those with the power meter on will see it fill up entirely yellow. Be careful throwing over or past defenders with a bullet pass, as sometimes the window and margin for error are very tight.
How to Touch Pass
Lastly, a touch pass strikes the balance between a bullet pass and lob pass. If you wanna do a touch pass, simply press the button for a moment and release before it reaches bullet pass duration. This is easiest to identify when you've got the meter showing, as any press and release before it's fully yellow should turn out to be a touch pass.
One way to ensure you've got the touch pass timing correct is going into Ultimate Team for a moment. Open the Challenges, check Ultimate Team 201 for Passing Advanced, and play Flick of the Wrist. This specific challenge only completes if you get touch pass timing right, so it'll help you feel out the duration. You can also head into Mini Games and try one of the passing specific drills to practice, and soon you should be easily switching between pass types in College Football 25.
