Are you stuck on Dragon's Dogma 2's "The Caged Magistrate" quest because you can't find the precise location of the NPC called Waldhar, whom you must rescue? Don't worry, Arisen; you are not alone!
During my Dragon's Dogma 2 review period, I was stuck playing "Where's Waldhar" for roughly four (4) hours, and I don't want you to go through the painful process, so let's leap in!
Please note: There are some main story spoilers explaining the location of Waldhar in Dragon's Dogma 2. You've been warned!
Dragon's Dogma 2 Magistrate Waldhar Location
As one of the many branches of Dragon's Dogma 2's main quest, you are tasked by Captain Brant in Vermund's capital city, Vernworth, to rescue Waldhar, a magistrate who has been imprisoned in the Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower. Captain Brant also gives you a key, so it should be easy, right? Wrong!
If you attempt to go straight into the tower and start looking for the magistrate, you will get smashed to bits by guards and thrown in prison. So where exactly is Waldhar so you can progress in the rather frustrating The Caged Magistrate quest in Dragon's Dogma 2? Well, you'll first need to navigate to the location marked with a green star in the image below.
Our suggestion is that you enter Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower through this location, opposite the Slums area on the cliffside. Use the key provided by Captain Brant to get inside, at which point, your pawns can't go any further, signaling that you should probably avoid combat.
Run up a few flights of stairs until you reach an area where you must once again use the Gaol Tower key, then STOP!
There are guards patrolling the prison cell area. We suggest waiting for them to turn from where you are looking through the gate and start walking left. Then, you can run towards the first pillar and slowly follow behind them. As they turn around, so should you, as Waldhar's cell is located right at the end (on your left from where you came in).
Finally, you've found Waldhar in Dragon's Dogma 2 and can progress further through The Caged Magistrate's quest. We don't want to spoil the quest for you too much, but let's just say you'll have to visit him again a bit further down the line.
Pro tip: If you do get caught, you will end up in a cell just a few spots away from Waldhar. While not ideal, you can use your Gaol Tower key to open your cell door, then head to Waldhar's cell and speak to the imprisoned magistrate. Try not to get caught, as the process can get a bit infuriating.
