Should You Help Minrathous or Treviso in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

One of your most consequential decisions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard can also be one of the most difficult.

As your party grows in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, more challenging decisions will have to be made in the ongoing war against the Elven gods. Earlier choices are more about a temporary approval boost or a few minor quest impacts, but choosing to help Minrathous or Treviso will have drastic impacts on the city you don't save. Before you make the call, it helps to know exactly how that choice will affect you in the later sections of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

If you're already at this decision, you need to know what you're risking if you move forward. For players who want to get the most out of every side quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you might want to backtrack a bit rather than push forward here. The majority of active side quests in the city you don't save will be ended and inaccessible, but an earlier save could prevent that for you.

If you have any existing save that's before you travel to the High Anderfels to start the quest A Warden's Best Friend, you can reload to that point and start wrapping up side quests before moving forward again. Travel to each city and do some exploring, particularly the one you don't plan to save.

When you're ready to help Minrathous or Treviso, one factor to consider is which faction you prefer to be most aligned with. If your background is with the Antivan Crows or Shadow Dragons, that could be your deciding factor. Saving Minrathous will give you more faction strength with the Shadow Dragons, and saving Treviso will improve your connection to the Antivan Crows.

The faction not chosen will lose even more faction strength than you gain with the other, so be careful not to alienate a side that you are invested in. Over the long-term arc of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this decision also presents an opportunity for either the Antaam in Treviso or the Venatori in Minrathous to gain power.

You'll also risk making one companion Hardened. When you choose to help Lucanis or Neve save their city, the other ally will be extremely upset by this decision. In the immediate aftermath, the companion you don't help will become completely unavailable to your party until a few later quests are completed. When they do return, Lucanis or Neve will be Hardened.

Any companion that is Hardened will no longer use healing skills to benefit you, but it will give a slight boost to their damage with other skills. If you're considering a romance with Neve or Lucanis, you need to choose their side in this situation. When they're Hardened, any progress on building a bond with that companion will slow to a crawl. It's not impossible to win them back, but it will be much more difficult. Choose carefully, and be prepared for the consequences as your Dragon Age: The Veilguard journey continues from here.
