It's been a thousand years since the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Okay, I'm being dramatic — but it's certainly felt like it! After teasers and brief snippets into the upcoming Dragon Age 4, EA and BioWare have finally announced the game's title will be settling on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and a gameplay trailer is coming sooner than you think.
Previously, the upcoming entry was working under the title of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, following the events after Dragon Age: Inquisition. From what we can tell, the new game will still act as a sequel to Inquisition, only now under the new title of The Veilguard and a little less focus on prior events.
In an announcement post, Executive Producer, for Dragon Age and General Manager at BioWare Gary McKay said, "After Dragon Age: Inquisition launched, the studio was given an incredible opportunity to explore, test, and validate a variety of gameplay concepts as we worked to determine what the next Dragon Age could look like.
We brought everything to the table which, yes, even included a multiplayer concept. The time we spent experimenting and iterating gradually taught us a lot. This work, and the amazing support from EA, helped us re-focus on creating an incredible single player game, with all the choices, characters and world building you’d expect from us..."
The post goes on to say that fans can expect more of what makes Dragon Age the iconic RPG that it is, including introducing a new lead hero and a cast of companions. The party will also be facing a new threat, though "the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale" only the player and their companions will be at the heart of the story, rather than the enemy.
"So, to capture what this game is all about, we changed the name as the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas."
A full gameplay reveal trailer is planned for June 11, 2024 at 8:00am PT, showing off 15 minutes of gameplay and the game's opening moments. Fans can watch along over on the official Dragon Age YouTube channel.
