The use of drugs and alcohol isn’t anything new to any media starring a down-on-their-luck detective, least of all in Disco Elysium, where you could easily find yourself popping some Speed in order to pull off an incredible gunshot or to help with a tough Perception or Reaction Speed check. The option is readily available should you be uncaring about your cop’s sobriety and the effect it might have on the plot’s ending.

In this guide, we’ll go over what you need to consider whenever you take speed and any other kind of illicit substance in Disco Elysium, along with a list of locations where you can get your hand on the double-edged consumable.

What Happens If You Take Drugs in Disco Elysium?

Drugs kill. That is to say, taking advantage of substance abuse in Disco Elysium will, in fact, trigger an associated disadvantage, just like in real life. Less true to life are the inherent ability increases that come with smoking, drinking alcohol, or popping pills, which is what you’ll likely be keen on making good use of in tougher skill checks or key events like the Mercenary Tribunal. Be wary though, as each comes with a drawback, often in the form of damage to your Health or Morale.

All Drug Types and Their Effects in Disco Elysium

There are four kinds of drugs to find, each of which - when used - govern and increase one of the four groups of stats and skills: Intellect, Physique, Psyche, and Motorics.

• Cigarettes: +1 Intellect, -1 Health

• Pyrholidon: +1 Psyche, -1 Health

• Alcohol: +1 Physique, -1 Morale

• Amphetamine (Speed): +1 Motorics, -1 Morale

Where to Find Speed in Disco Elysium

Given Motorics’ usefulness throughout many key moments in Disco Elysium, including the Mercenary Tribunal, it can be very useful to keep around in a pinch. Saint-Batiste Preptide Speed Bottles can be found at three separate locations in Martinaise:

• Cuno’s Father’sapartment in the Capeside Apartment Complex

• Klaasje’s medicine cabinet at the Whirling-in-Rags

• In some boxes in front of the bench near Rosemary in the Fishing Village

It’s worth noting that the boxes near Rosemary aren’t accessible until after you’ve taken Speed at least once.
