Diablo II: Resurrected hasn’t been having the best of luck lately due to the ongoing server issues plaguing again. While the development team at Blizzard are working around the clock to resolve the issues, it’s becoming hard for Diablo players to remain committed to playing the game.
One Reddit user shared a story online on their grandfather’s journey back to playing Diablo II. However, they also shared how their grandfather injured himself while playing Diablo II: Resurrected yet continues to slay demons instead of resting.
Grandfather returns to Diablo II after a 20-year break
Redditor Chrompower shared on the Diablo subreddit a story about their grandfather's unrelenting dedication to playing Diablo II: Resurrected. They also included that their grandfather started playing again following a 20-year hiatus from the game.
“He started playing with Diablo II back in 2000, and he was instantly amazed by the game. He played it a lot, and I always remember the tough fights against Duriel where I had the important task to press the heal potion hotkeys while he fought against the boss,” Chrompower details.
The Redditor continues that their grandfather had stopped playing for many years, however occasionally returned to play the game. That changed with the announcement of Diablo II: Resurrected.
The Dark Lord is almost here.

“After he heard about D2:R, he was so excited and happy about it. He could not wait to play it and even started to practice with the original D2.”
Unfortunately, the Redditor began to explain the issues their grandfather was facing, which included cardiovascular problems. The Redditor mentioned that their grandfather was worried about possibly dying before the game’s release.
This was ultimately not the case as the grandfather lived to see the game’s launch and has since started “slaying demons again”. However, according to the Redditor, their grandfather’s experience playing this time around did run into a few hiccups.
While their grandfather is playing around 10 hours daily, he did suffer an injury, Tendonitis, due to the massive playtime. They explained to the grandfather to take regular breaks, but he just wants a rig built to support his arm that doesn’t cause discomfort.
Despite facing adversity, the grandfather continues to plod on. Not only does he still play with the same character, a sorceress, as he did 20 years ago, but he still refuses to use the teleport ability citing it’s “too fast for him”.
The Redditor’s grandfather does die quite a bit in-game; it pales in comparison to the amazing feats he accomplished, including clearing an area in its entirety.
“He kills everything. He picks up everything. He sells everything. I never saw such clean areas in my whole D2 career,” Chrompower exclaimed.
Their grandfather also killed Duriel in Hell on his first attempt, and the Redditor had managed to capture it on video. But similarly, their grandfather expressed his frustrations over the server queues.
Redditors had offered some advice on the post, suggesting to switch from keyboard and mouse to a controller, as one Redditor advised.
“Get him an Xbox controller. That’ll help with the Tendonitis,” Jednatt had advised Chrompower.
An 87 year old grandfather has been playing so much Diablo 2: Resurrected he injured himself, but that didn't stop him from playing! Check out how his grandson helps him and the family gets together as he one-shots Hell Duriel and more! #Diablohttps://t.co/KTWlpjXeASpic.twitter.com/EInkNRP18t

Others expressed how amazing and whole the post is, and we couldn’t agree more. The fortitude and perseverance displayed is all the proof we need that one is never too old or too young to be slaying demons.
