Diablo 4 Season 1 Level Requirement Caps For Sacred & Ancestral Items

We discuss the new level requirement caps for both Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4 Season 1.
Diablo 4 Season 1 Level Requirement Caps For Sacred & Ancestral Items

The first season of Diablo 4, Season of the Malignant, doesn't just introduce the new Malignant Hearts mechanic and questline. There are also a bunch of changes Blizzard is making, and one such quality-of-live feature is introducing level requirement caps for Sacred and Ancestral items!

This sounds like a great new change, especially for alts, so in this article, we will explain the new level requirement caps for both Sacred and Ancestral items in Diablo 4 and why it matters, so let's charge in.

Diablo 4 Season 1 New Level Caps: Sacred & Ancestral

The Diablo 4 developers have made a fantastic change for Season 1, introducing caps on the level requirements for Sacred and Ancestral items. Alts rejoice! (Picture: Blizzard)

Previously, the level requirement of an item, when it drops, is based on your current character level. Effectively what it means is that you end up with a bunch of gear with level 100 requirements at level 100, junk that you cannot use. However, these would have been great for alts if the level requirement wasn't that crazy.

In Diablo 4 Season 1, this will change. Instead, there will be a hard cap for the level requirements on both Sacred and Ancestral items. Check them out below.

  • Sacred items have a level requirement cap of 60.
  • Ancestral items have a level requirement cap of 80.

To be clear, even if your character is level 100, the maximum level requirement for Sacred items that drop cannot be more than 60, and Ancestral items cannot be more than 80. At the time of writing, it is unclear if this also goes for Uber Uniques.

This information comes from a GameStar interview with Diablo 4's Associate Game Director, Joseph Piepiora. Joe also spoke about itemization and improving the experience, stating that:

We're getting feedback on how it feels to keep increasing your power once you reach max world tier. We're thinking of changes we want to address that will improve the experience, and this is an example of that. And that's far from the end. Season 1 is our first season in Diablo 4 and we're going to move this forward in a meaningful way.

This is a great move from Blizzard, as we can now gear up our alts easier with Sacred and Ancestral items found with our main characters.

If any level requirement caps for items change in the future, we will endeavor to update this article so Diablo 4 fans always have the latest information at hand.
