Diablo 4 Item Durability & How To Repair

We explain how item durability (and the loss thereof) works in Diablo 4, alongside how you can repair your gear with relative ease.

With Lilith's return to Sanctuary, Diablo 4 also brings back item durability. Some gamers might not like durability loss on items, while others will think it adds another layer to the game's item management system.

Whatever the case may be, Diablo 4 players will need to know everything about item durability, from how durability loss occurs, to how they can repair their gear, so let's get started.

Update on 14 June 2023: We've updated this article with the latest info on Diablo 4's item durability and loss system, including how to repair your gear.

Diablo 4 Item Durability & Loss Explained

It appears that items, no matter their rarity, will have 100 base durability. (Picture: Blizzard)

When your character dies in Diablo 4 (unless it is hardcore, then it is gone forever), you respawn and lose 10% durability on your armor and weapons. No durability loss occurs on jewelry, as far as we can tell.

From what we've seen thus far (as per the image above), items in Diablo 4, regardless of their quality/rarity, have 100 durability. This might change per item due to a specific affix, and if Diablo 2 is anything to go by, you might find items with a specific affix that prevents durability loss altogether. The flip side of the coin is players might (unconfirmed) find items that cannot be repaired. We will update these details once more information becomes available.

Once an item's durability in Diablo 4 reaches 0, it is considered "broken." The item does not disappear and can still be salvaged, but it cannot be used on your character until repaired. This brings us to the next section of our guide.

How To Repair Items & Costs in Diablo 4

Once you've lost some durability on your items in Diablo 4, there's an easy way to repair them. However, this will cost some Gold, which varies depending on the item level and quality/rarity of the items you want to repair.

Simply head on over to any Blacksmith in Diablo 4 after you've unlocked the initial one, and select the repair function. Players can choose to repair all items or repair just specific items with their hard-earned Gold. With every 10% durability loss, the cost increases.

So there you have it, everything Diablo 4 players need to know about item durability, how it is lost, and how you can repair items. We will endeavor to update this article if/when more information becomes available.
