Destiny 2 might not be the most welcoming live-service game for newcomers, but it has one of the most welcoming gaming communities.
The Destiny community has built quite the reputation around supporting other Guardians, whether in-game with various activities or outside, with mental health resources.
If you have been passively active on social media, you might have noticed an ongoing trend within the Destiny community where both Destiny 2 players and devs are wearing gold shaders on their armor. But what is the motive behind this new initiative? Read on to find out why.
The Destiny 2 Community Wears Gold For Noble Cause
Destiny 2 players and devs are going gold supporting Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
The support for this cause began when a Destiny 2 player posted on Dadstiny, a Facebook group for dads who play Destiny, about losing their eldest child to cancer.
"The September before losing her, was the first time I started asking those of you who would, to go gold for the month of September as it’s Childhood Cancer Awareness month and gold is the colour associated with it. No monetary gains here, just a supportive gesture asked by one dad to others. So I am asking again if you would, my fellow dads and Guardians to please join me and go gold for the month of September. It would be awesome to see a tower of gold titans, hunters and warlocks," he said.
Naturally, the post was circulated across social media, including Reddit and Twitter. It didn't take long for it to go viral, especially after notable streamer Anne Munition retweeted it.

Since then, more players have joined the initiative and shared their gold-plated Guardians, including Destiny 2's senior community manager, Dylan Gafner. Gafner also shared a list of gold shaders that you could use to support this movement.
And that's the reason why everyone is wearing gold in Destiny 2.
