Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 asymmetrical horror game, with four survivors attempting to exit the trial before the killer finds and kills all of them. With a team of four working together, it makes sense that players might be curious about if Dead by Daylight has voice chat for fans to chat with one another during matches. After all, it would be pretty useful to be able to call out the killer's location or the location of a nearly completed generator on call.
Let's go over whether Dead by Daylight has voice chat and answer all of your questions about how to communicate in Dead by Daylight.
1 June 2023 - We've updated this article to reflect the latest information about whether Dead by Daylight has voice chat.
Does Dead By Daylight Have Voice Chat?
Unfortunately, no, Dead by Daylight does not have voice chat. It also does not look like this feature is coming anytime soon, even if some fans would like to be able to communicate with other players in Dead by Daylight.
PC players can use the pre-game and post-game chat to send messages to other players before or after the game, but there is no way to directly communicate with other players during trials at the current time.
Why Is There No Voice Chat In Dead By Daylight?
There is no voice chat in Dead by Daylight because the game is not designed to be played with voice chat. This would give survivor players an unfair advantage since many perks prevent survivors from detecting the killer.
Developers have claimed that they struggle to moderate the amount of toxicity in the pre-game and post-game chat also, meaning it would be a new challenge to consistently moderate the game's voice chat.
When Is Voice Chat Coming To Dead By Daylight?
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that voice chat is coming to Dead by Daylight anytime soon, if ever. The Dead by Daylight team confirmed this in a 2020 Tweet, which read, "We have no plan to add a voice chat..."
As we previously mentioned, PC players on Epic Games or Steam can always rely on the pre-game or post-game chat to communicate with survivor players before the trial, or the killer and other survivors after the trial.
How To Voice Chat In Dead By Daylight
While there isn't voice chat in the Dead by Daylight game right now, there are still other ways to connect with your friends while playing the game. We recommend holding the call on another client - like Discord or an Xbox or PlayStation party - while you play the game together. This way, you can communicate important information verbally while still playing the game. Unfortunately, of course, this means that your voice chat will be limited to friends only.
If you aren't playing with friends or can't voice chat, there are still other ways to get information about other survivors' locations as well as the killer's location, such as perks or items like maps. For example, the general perk Kindred shows you the location of the killer if they are near the hook, as well as the locations of all survivors while another survivor is on the hook. Meanwhile, Laurie Strode's Object of Obsession shows you the location of the killer constantly throughout the match - but it also shows the killer your aura.
