How to Make a Fire in Dayz
As mentioned before, fires in DayZ are vital to your survival as they provide you with heat for fighting off sickness, a place to cook your food, and a source of light when it gets dark out. So let's take a look at how to make a fire in detail below.
To make a fire, you need a few simple resources, these are:
- A Knife, Axe, or Machete
- Sticks
- Firewood
- Tinder (bark, paper, scraps, rags, or bandage)
- Matches
Once you've collected these items you can combine them to create a Fire Kit. This kit can then be placed anywhere you want (as long as the ground is dry and flat).
You can then equip any matches you have on your person and interact with the placed Fire Kit to start a fire. Once started, you can cut down trees to collect firewood, which can then be fed to your fire as fuel to keep it burning for longer.
How To Make a Fire without Matches in DayZ
But what if you don't have any matches? Well, luckily the game has an answer to this as well, and it comes in the form of creating a hand drill kit. To begin this process, here are the items you need to make a fire without matches:
- A Knife, Axe, or Machete
- X4 Sticks
- Tree Bark
- A Rag
First find a spot you want to place your fire, and use your inventory to combine a stick with a rag. This will create a mini fireplace that you can place down on the ground.
Now combine tree bark with a stick to create a hand-drill kit, and equip it. Once equipped, head over to your fireplace and interact with it to start your fire.
Similar to the other fireplace, you can feed this fire with firewood collected from trees. And if all goes well, you should have two easy ways to create a fire in DayZ.
As mentioned before, fires are vital for fending off the cold elements and cooking your raw meats to avoid sickness. And most importantly can act as a source of light when night comes and your field of vision is obscured.
