DayZ has finally released the highly anticipated Frostline DLC for its core survival game, bringing a new map and fresh content. However, the response from fans has been less than positive. The game has been review-bombed on Steam, and to everyone's surprise, the developers have responded to the criticism with their thoughts. Let’s dive into the details below.
DayZ Developers Respond to Backlash After Frostline DLC Gets Review Bombed on Steam
DayZ released its Frostline DLC on October 15th, but after a month of gameplay, players have voiced dissatisfaction, significantly affecting its Steam ratings. The DLC currently holds a "Mostly Negative" recent review score and "Mixed" overall, primarily due to a lack of unique content, lingering bugs, and its price. Players have criticized it for feeling like more of the same, rather than offering a fresh experience.
Did you know that 8 million users for whom we have data on Steam played for an average of 188 hours and paid an average of 30 USD gross in #Dayz? In response to the backlash, Bohemia CEO Marek Spanel addressed the criticism surrounding the DLC's cost on X He pointed out that DayZ players have averaged 188 hours and $30 spent on the game, with Bohemia receiving less than 10 cents per hour for maintaining the game's infrastructure. Despite this, Frostline’s $26.99 price tag has drawn complaints that it offers insufficient content for the cost.
Accompanying his response was a clip from The BBeatles' "PleasePlease Me, "likely a playful jab at fans asking for more while undervaluing development costs. Many fans responded by arguing that "$27 for old assets and minimal new gameplay" isn’t justified. It seems the debate has reached an impasse, with both sides holding valid concerns.
Bohemia has yet to provide further comment, leaving fans wondering how the DLC will evolve. Hopefully, the developers will address player feedback and improve Frostline to meet expectations. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge.
