DayZ Knight Armor: How To Get, Armor Values, and Is It Good?

The 1.21 update of DayZ introduces tons of new content to the game that not only expands on the gameplay and features but also adds some novelty in the form of a full suit of armor being added to the game. This new Knight Armor is fully wearable, functional, and most excitingly, excels in being one of the best pieces of gear in the game. 

So if you're curious to know how you can get your hands on this new set of knight armor and the details surrounding it, then we have you fully covered (pun intended). Below we'll show how to get the Knight Armor and how it can help you survive critical wounds in DayZ. 

How To Get Knight Armor in DayZ

Aside from the crossbow being added to the game, the 1.21 update gives us the Knight Armor, which contains six different pieces: the Chainmail Top, Chainmail Leggings, Chainmail Coif, Chestplate, Medieval Boots, and Norse Helm. Each of these pieces can be found throughout both the Chernarus and Linovia maps, but only in specific locations. 

In Chernarus, players can only find them within the ruined castles scattered across the map. On the other hand, in Linovia, the armor pieces will spawn in all hunting locations across the map, including the single castle contained in the map, the Yellow King castle.

We should also note that the Norse Helm is currently exclusive to the Livonia map, and can only be found in the Hunting locations and Yellow King castle there. Though as we delve into the specifications of each piece next, you may find that it isn't a massive loss (functionally at least).

How To Repair Knight Armor in DayZ

Once you've gotten your hands on the Knight Armor it's important to know how to keep it in shape and not fall apart before you hit any infected or player encounters. Repairing the Knight Armor is fairly simple in DayZ as each item only requires one tool or other item to fix. 

Below we've listed each part, as well as the tool required to repair each of them: 

• Chainmail top - Pliers
• Chainmail leggings - Pliers
• Chainmail Koif - Pliers
• Chestplate - Blowtorch
• Norse Helm - Blowtorch
• Medieval Boots - Leather Kit

Because most of the armor pieces only require pliers to fix, the usage and repair loop of these items is far more convenient for players and won't have you sweating as the durability of the set decreases. Repairing items with the blowtorch also takes very little gas, and the leather kit is easily craftable. 

Knight Armor Protection Details And Stacking 

Now that you know how to get the Knight Armor, its details, and how to repair it, you may want to know what benefits it brings you to wear this armor over any of the other ones in the game. So let's discuss why this armor is shaking up the meta in DayZ as the possible best armor to use. 

*(HR) = Health loss reduction when hit. (SR) = Shock reduction when hit*

The first thing we'll discuss is damage reduction, and what you'll notice immediately from the breakdown in the table above is that this armor is for players who like to get up close and personal. Even just comparing the chest plate to previously available armor, it outperforms the ballistic vest and police vest against melee and infected attacks but falls slightly behind in terms of ballistic and explosive protection. 

This trend is consistent across all five pieces of the new medieval gear, emphasizing more melee and infected protection rather than ballistic and explosive defense. Another boon is the fact that both the Chainmail top and Chainmail leggings sport the armor stat, making them highly valuable for any player who wants to survive.

Ultimately if a more aggressive approach is your combat play style, the Knight Armor has the stats to back you up, however, there's one final perk that pushes this armor set above the rest. This is something that was previously in the game, and will now be reintroduced as of patch 1.21, ballistic armor stacking. 

Ballistic Armor Stacking with Knight Armor 

In the past, combining the leather jacket and press vest provided increased protection against bullets, arrows, and bolts to the torso. Now, in version 1.21, you can stack ballistic protection on the torso again by combining the chest plate with the chainmail top. 

For instance, the Vega firing slug shells cause nearly 100 health damage to an unprotected torso. With just a chest plate, the damage is reduced to 55, while the chainmail top alone reduces it to 70. However, combining the chest plate and chainmail top results in only 39 damage, reducing the Vega's impact by a massive 60%.

Although the plate carrier vest alone is superior to the combined chest plate and chainmail top, you can stack the chainmail top on top of the plate carrier vest for even greater damage reduction. For example, instead of sustaining 100 damage, the combined plate carrier vest and chainmail top reduce it by 80%, making the chainmail top an essential item for full protection.

Furthermore, the chainmail legs are the only pants in DayZ that offer ballistic protection, enabling you to endure an additional 30 damage to the legs from ballistic attacks, significantly reducing the risk of leg injuries.

One thing to note is the impact of wearing this armor on your movement and detection. Wearing chainmail may make you significantly louder and more noticeable to infected players, potentially affecting actions that require movement, though that has yet to be fully tested, so once we know more, we will update these details accordingly.
