CD Projekt Red is breathing new life into Cyberpunk 2077 with its first and final expansion, Phantom Liberty. Unlike the base game's more explosive campaign, it's more of a grounded "spy-thriller" where you work with an FIA agent, Solomon Reed (played by Idris Elba), on an espionage mission and explore the new Night City district called Dogtown.
The Witcher studio has a history of releasing incredible story DLCs, such as Witcher 3's Heart and Stones, and so far, Phantom Liberty seems like it's going to continue that streak. CDPR has confirmed it's the studio's biggest budget DLC ever, and Elba claims it has the "deepest game narrative ever." If you're also aboard the Phantom Liberty hype train, here's our extensive breakdown of the upcoming expansion's every minute detail, including its release date, story, platforms, price, and more.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Release Date
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will release on 26 September 2023, almost three weeks after the release of Bethesda's long-awaited sci-fi RPG Starfield.
CDPR first announced Phantom Liberty in September last year with a short teaser that showcased the protagonist V taking an oath to faithfully serve the New United States of America. It also confirmed the return of Johnny Silverhand, the eccentric rockerboy played by none other than Keanu Reeves.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Platforms
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be releasing only on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. As you may have noticed, this latest expansion pack is ditching the last-gen consoles and will be current-gen exclusive. This decision isn't surprising, given the performance of the base game on those platforms.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Price
The Phantom Liberty costs $29.99 on all platforms. There's also a Cyberpunk 2077 bundle that comes with the Phantom Liberty expansion, and it costs $80, but you can currently get it for a discount at $56. Pre-ordering the expansion will also get you the Quadra Sport R-7 “Vigilante" car.
Surprisingly, Phantom Liberty costs more than the combined price of both Witcher 3 DLCs. Cyberpunk 2077's quest director, Pawel Sasko, justified the pricing in a Kotaku interview by saying that it features a more "dense" world than Witcher 3. There is also a new endless quest type called Street Stories, which CDPRs expect you to play for hours and hours.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Story
Warning: story spoilers of Cyberpunk 2077
As mentioned previously, Phantom Liberty is a spy thriller that primarily takes place in the new Dogtown district of Night City. It kicks off right after the events of Cyberpunk 2077, with V still looking for ways to get the Arasaka chip out of their brain and prevent their impending death. The pursuit for a cure leads them to a mysterious woman named Songbird in Dogtown who, in exchange for V's needs, wants them to serve the NUSA and protect President Rosalind Myers, whose airship crashes in this District at the beginning of the story.
Dogtown is described as Night City's most dangerous city. It's a combat zone, home to illegal cyberwares and black marketing deals. Dogtown's tyrant ruler is Colonel Kurt Hansen, the leader of the Barghest faction. Apparently, Hansen isn't a fan of NUSA, which makes things all the more challenging for V and her crew.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Gameplay Changes
With Phantom Liberty, CDPR is overhauling the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077. In addition to stuff like the enhanced police system, cybernetics, and skill trees, you can expect new vehicular combat, airdrop activities, underwater exploration, mech battles, and grand theft auto fixer missions.
A new Relic Tree also lets you customize your arms cyberwares like the Mantis Blade, Monowire, and Gorilla Arms. Speaking of cyberwares, CDPR is adding a cyberware capacity for a risk-and-reward gameplay experience. While you can't undergo cyberpsychosis, you may get health debuffs and other penalties.
Overall, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is shaping up to be an ambitious and meaty expansion, which, aside from adding new content, also aims to improve various aspects of the base game. It's like a more confident re-release for Cyberpunk 2077 that has been a long time coming.
