The 2021 season of the COD Mobile World Championship is reaching its climax, and unlike 2020, Activision has prepared great things for the closing of this competitive cycle, by bringing us an interregional competition with a prize pool of US$2m at stake.
As revealed on the official website, Activision has announced some of the changes that will arrive for the biggest tournament of their mobile title, which due to the current pandemic, will be divided into two regions in addition to being played in an online format.
Without further ado, let's get all the details about the COD Mobile World Championship 2021.
COD Mobile World Championship 2021: All qualified teams
As revealed by Activision, to maintain the well-being and safety of all participants, the final phase of the COD Mobile World Championship 2021 will be divided between two main conferences, maintaining a balanced structure in terms of competitive level.
For this, the original 16 places available for the tournament will be expanded to 24, with 12 teams from each region competing for the title of champions in the Western Finals and Eastern Finals.
Western Finals
The competition for the western zone will be held on 4-5th December, bringing together the best teams from Latin America, North America and Europe, who achieved their qualification thanks to their results in Stage 4 and in the Masters’ tournaments.
- Latin America: Zygnus, SKADE, FullHouse Gaming, and GODSENT
- North America: Tribe Gaming, ARP Gaming, NYSL Mayhem, and Xplicit
- Europe: Nova Esports, STMN Esports, Team Anarchy, and Asylium
Eastern Finals
The tournament dedicated for the Asian countries will be held on 11-12th December, this time bringing together the best teams from China, Japan, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, who won their ticket to the finals for their achievements in the regional and national circuits.
- South Asia and the Middle East: GodLike, Team Vitality, Revenant Esports, and True Rippers Esports
- Japan: SCARZ, and VrilliantOwlX
- Garena (Southeast Asia): ALMGHTY, DG Esports, and Blacklist Ultimate
- China: Qing Jiu Club, FunPlus Phoenix, and Douyu Gaming
COD Mobile World Championship 2021: Format explainer
The format for both competitions will be the same, with all teams playing in a series of best-of-fives in a round-robin format, to determine the best four teams that will advance to day two, where all qualified will meet in a double-elimination bracket, to determine the winner of the last stage.
The rotation of modes will be the standard used throughout the competitive season, starting with Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, Domination, and again Hardpoint and Search and Destroy if required.
The maps available for each game will be Crossfire, Firing Range, Standoff, Takeoff, Raid, Summit, and lastly, Hackney Yard.
So far, Activision hasn’t shared more information about how the prize pool will be distributed, and the rewards that will be available within the game, so more details will be revealed as the competition approaches.
