Warzone players unhappy about "ridiculous" Battle Axe unlock challenge

The Call of Duty: Warzone Season 6 update has introduced an array of changes, including revamped POIs, new Operators, and weapon balance and attachment changes. The developers, Raven Software, even announced the retirement of its iconic Verdansk map.

There are also five new weapons introduced to the game, including the 410 Ironhide shotgun, Grav assault rifle, and Battle Axe melee, which was released at launch, as well as the LAPA submachine gun and Hammer & Sickle, which will be released later this season.

Some players, however, are not happy about the "ridiculous" unlock challenges to acquire some of these weapons, namely the Battle Axe two-handed melee weapon; and have vented their frustration on Reddit.

At present, the only way to unlock the Battle Axe in Warzone (that is, without spending money) is to: "Get a kill with a gun, melee weapon, and a piece of lethal equipment in the same life in 15 different completed matches," which is, admittedly, an incredibly gruelling task.

While there is a faster way to acquire the two-handed melee weapon within Black Ops Cold War multiplayer games, players claim that the difficult unlock challenge is how the publisher, Activision, gets Warzone players to purchase or spend more money on the game.

A Redditor, big_zilla1, said: "They might as well have added 'buy our bundles plz (sic)!' at the end."

Another Reddit user reciprocated this sentiment, saying: "The challenges in Warzone are ridiculous. It's always like 'Get 15 kills on a Tuesday when it's 68°F, wearing a green shirt, while your mom is yelling at you to take the trash out.' I know they're trying to force you to buy the games."

"I have found it is very easy in Zombies mode Onslaught Elite (PlayStation-only mode) in Cold War. It’s very unfair for players who don’t own Cold War," Reddit user Dani_1026 said.

Only time will tell whether Raven Software will revise the conditions to unlock the Battle Axe, given that the Reddit thread has garnered significant traction.

Until then, players will either have to tough it out or open their wallets by (i) purchasing the game or (ii) bypassing the challenge entirely by unlocking the Legendary Blueprint for the Axe by purchasing "The Berserker" bundle in the store.
