Infernal Iron is a rare crafting material in Baldur's Gate 3 that you will need to progress Karlach's companion quest. The fiery Tiefling is one of the bubbliest party members in the game, who's also incredibly deadly on the battlefield.
Despite being a powerhouse, Karlach is a ticking time bomb, courtesy of the Infernal Engine installed in place of her heart. To improve and upgrade the Infernal Engine, you will need Infernal Iron, which isn't exactly easy to find. As such, here's our guide, which explains how to get Infernal Iron in Baldur's Gate 3.
Infernal Iron Location In Baldur's Gate 3
You can get Infernal Iron from the Dror Ragzlin treasure room in the Shattered Sanctum area of the Goblin Camp and the chest in the blacksmith's room beneath the Blighted Village. Do note that these are the areas you can explore in Act 1 of the game. You might find Infernal Iron in several places other than this beyond Act 1.
The Dror Ragzlin treasure room is beyond the hall, where you find him performing a ritual on the dead Mind Flayer. Naturally, the treasure room is locked, and you could either kill Ragzlin to get the room's key or pickpocket him.
The Blacksmith's quarter beneath the Blighted Village is much easier to find. Just beyond the Blighted Village's Sigil is a well. Use it to enter the Whispering Depths dungeon.
From here on out, head straight, and you will encounter a bunch of Spiders. Kill them, and take the uphill path on the right. Cross the webbed surface and turn right again. Go towards the wall. If you pass the Perception check, you will notice the wall is destructible. Use a two-handed melee weapon or a spell like Shatter to blow the wall and enter the hidden room. You will notice that it's the Blacksmith's quarter beneath the Blighted Village.
Once inside, ignore the Blacksmith's Bellow on the right, turn left, and take the ladder. You will find a locked chest here. Use a lockpick to open the chest and grab the Infernal Iron from it. We recommend using Astarion for picking any locks because of the Sleight of Hand bonus.
And that's it! Take the Infernal Iron to Dammon in Emerald Grove to upgrade Karlach's Infernal Engine. If you happen to grab Infernal Iron from both places, stash one of them in your chest. You will need it later.
