Among the myriad of essential items in ARK Survival Ascended, Narcotic shines as a crucial tool for taming. Yet, there's a tier beyond Narcotic that works even better - Bio Toxin. This substance demands a more perilous acquisition process, but the benefits it brings make the risk worthwhile.
In this guide, we're not just scratching the surface; we're plunging deep into the realm of Bio Toxin in ARK Survival Ascended. We'll uncover its inherent nature, explore the methods to obtain it, and unveil how it can elevate your gaming experience.
What is Bio Toxin in ARK Survival Ascended?
Bio Toxin, as mentioned previously, is essentially an improved version of the Narcotic drug in ARK Survival Ascended. Narcotics affect the torpidity of creatures by increasing the amount of torpor (a shorthand for torpidity) that a creature or player currently has. Narcotics specifically increase torpor by a total of 40 points over 8 seconds, and it's here where Bio Toxin stands out.
Instead of increasing your torpor by 40 points, Bio Toxin increases it by twice that amount and raises torpor by 80 points instead, making taming much easier and increasing the unconscious state of any creature or player it's used on. You can administer the Bio Toxin directly by placing it into the enemy's inventory once they're unconscious, but to knock them out, you can craft the Shocking Tranquilizer Dart using the Bio Toxin once you reach level 96, which knocks enemies out much faster.
Here's the Shocking Tranquilizer crafting recipe:
- 3 Bio Toxin.
- 2 Metal Ingot/Scrap Metal Ingot.
- 1 Tranquilizer Dart.
Now that you know what Bio Toxin is and how it functions in the game, let's discuss how you can gather this powerful resource and possibly even farm it in the game.
How To Get Bio Toxin in ARK Survival Ascended
Bio Toxin can only be obtained from one creature on the Island, the Cnidaria, a jellyfish-like creature that swims in the oceans of the Island and uses both poison and electrical attacks. These creatures are usually found on the oceanic perimeter of the Island but more often spawn in higher numbers in the underwater cave systems on the east and west sides of the map.
When it comes to killing and farming these creatures for the Bio Toxin, you have a few options. The first is to hunt them down in the water using dinos that are immune to the Cnidaria's venom, which include the following dinos:
- Beelzebufo
- Spinosaurus
- Basilosaurus
- Tusoteuthis
- Pelagornis
Alternatively, you can swim around and attract as many of them as you can, then swim towards the shore, leading them into shallow water. From here, you can simply poke them to death now that you have a more solid footing, although using a chainsaw will yield faster kills and more Bio Toxin per Cnidaria that you kill.
This is also the ideal way to farm them, as you can herd a group of them together to kill once you're near land or even lead them to an enemy's base for a surprise attack with a wave of these toxic jellyfish behind you. Of course, as a last-ditch effort, you can also use console commands to either spawn in the Cnidaria to kill or just spawn the Bio Toxin straight into your inventory.
Either way, whether you decide to simply herd them together or spawn what you need into your inventory, you'll be able to farm enough Bio Toxin to use for all your taming and Shocking Tranquilizer crafting needs by following these easy steps. As always, good luck out there, and happy hunting!
