Following a year of hiatus due to COVID-19, the Genesis series of events will return for the eight-time, once again scheduled to be played in California this upcoming January.
Genesis, which often signifies the start of a new competitive Smash season, has been a staple of the community for more than a decade, with its first iteration taking place all the way back in 2009.
Genesis 8 - Start date
Announced during Smash Summit 11, Genesis 8 will take place this upcoming 28th January, with the finals scheduled to be played on the 30t at the San Jose Civic theatre in San Jose, California.
The event will feature both singles and doubles competitions for both Smash Ultimate and Melee as its signature titles, with Rivals of Aether and Smash 64 also being highlighted.
Genesis often features side-events for games like Windjammers, Street Fighter II, and more, however, no official information regarding these has been announced as of yet.
Genesis 8 - How to register
If you're interested in entering any of the events featured at Genesis 8, you can check the official Smash.gg for all details.
During Genesis 7 (played in January 2020) Tyler "Marss" Martins squashed Leonardo "MkLeo" Lopez's dream of a Genesis fourpeat on the Ultimate side of things, meanwhile, Zain Naghmi confirmed his status as a new Melee god by beating Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma.
