What Is A Rust Server Wipe
Essentially, a Rust server wipe is a hard reset on the game. Rust is a survival game where players build up resources to give themselves a better chance to survive. From weapons to your base, everything has to be crafted
The longer a server lasts, the more established veterans become and the more difficult it becomes for new players to enter the game. Newer players will be running around naked with a rock while veterans will snipe them a mile away from their full metal and stone base. Rust updates the game by wiping the servers to prevent this imbalance from lasting too long.
Buildings, loot, and weapons all get wiped away during a forced server wipe. The only thing that carries over is blueprints, which help players craft items. This gives players some sense of progression as they play the game even after a wipe.
What is a Rust BP wipe
There are rare occasions where a server wipe will include blueprints. This is often referred to as a "Rust BP wipe".
If you're wondering why they do this, well here's your answer straight from the horse's developer's mouth: "we will avoid wiping them [Blueprints] as much as possible but in some cases it might be needed to maintain the stability of the game. If this is the case we will let you know beforehand."
Both developers at Facepunch and Double 11 will normally announce any BP Wipes ahead of time to give players a heads-up of the impending change. But sometimes this might only be a few days in advance.
