Since the early days of Pokémon, three moves have become synonymous with the generation’s starters. These moves are specific to a starter Pokémon and they need to be fully evolved to even try and learn them. The moves are Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon and Blast Burn and they’ve made a return in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Due to their popularity and sheer power as a move, players are extremely curious where they can learn them for their starter Pokémon. Players will need to spend some time in Sinnoh before they can teach the moves to their starter but it’s worth it in the end. Here’s where you can go to find the trio of moves in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Learning the three best moves for a starter in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
For starters, you will need to have beaten either Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. This requires defeating the Elite Four and Team Galactic in the main story. Once you’ve done that, you need to go about acquiring the Nation Pokédex from Professor Rowan and Oak. This is done by seeing all 151 Pokémon in the Sinnoh dex.
Once those steps are complete, you need to put your fully evolved starter in your party and ensure they have maximum friendship. This is done by checking the Friendship Pokétch app and seeing two hearts next to your starter when you hold the cursor on them.
With all those requirements out of the way, you can head to Snowpoint City, hop on the boat to the Battle Zone and then make your way to Route 228. Here, you’ll find a Move Tutor inside of the house in the sandstorm area. The Move Tutor will teach Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon or Blast Burn to your fully evolved starter if they have maximum friendship.
You can have any of the fully evolved starters from Generation I-IV in your party to get the moves taught to them. Frenzy Plant is for the Grass-types, Hydro Cannon for the Water-types and Blast Burn for Fire-types.
The moves require a recharge after use in battle but the damage they deal beforehand makes them a valuable addition to a Pokémon starter’s moveset in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
