- The Pokémon Europe International Championships have been cancelled due to public health concerns
- The tournament was set to take place in Berlin, Germany in April
- It's joined the growing number of esports tournaments cancelled due to the virus
The 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championships 2020 have been cancelled in light of public health concerns from the Coronavirus.
A statement on their website reads: “The 2020 Pokémon Europe International Championships have been cancelled out of an abundance of caution and pursuant to the current recommendations set forth by public health officials.”
The European Pokémon tournament was set to take place at Estrel Berlin Congress Center in Berlin, Germany from 17-19 April. It was the second major Pokémon tournament of the year after the Oceania International Championships in Australia last month.

For now, the North America International Championships in June are still set to go ahead – although the website explains how they’re “closely monitoring the situation”.
This cancellation could also spell bad news for the Pokémon World Championships 2020, which is set to take place in London from 14-16th August.
A number of esports events have been cancelled due to the virus, including the Rocket League World Championship in Dallas and the Tokyo Tekken Masters.
Earlier this month, IEM Katowice staged the event without an audience due to the outbreak, while the Overwatch League has also cancelled events in South Korea. The League Of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) has also been put on indefinite hiatus.
