How to Use NBA 2K25 Crossplay on Xbox and PlayStation

While previous years weren't as consistent, crossplay has become the norm for most major sports gaming franchises and NBA 2K25 is no different. However, there are some changes from last year and details about how cross generation progression and entitlement works that players need to keep in mind. If you'd rather keep things to your chosen platform, this NBA 2K25 crossplay guide will also explain how to turn off crossplay entirely.

NBA 2K25 Crossplay Explained, How to Turn it Off

You can make use of NBA 2K25 crossplay in every single game mode, but there are a few platforms that don't get to enjoy the multi-platform fun. If you're playing NBA 2K25 on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, or PC, you won't have access to crossplay at all.

NBA 2K25 on PC did actually catch up with the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions this year as far as including new gen features, but 2K stopped short on connecting crossplay between Steam and the other new gen platforms. As for Switch, Xbox One, and PS4, these versions have more limited features and are built differently in many areas so that they can continue to operate on less powerful systems.

NBA 2K25 crossplay is currently exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players, and it's likely already active for your game. If you want to check and make sure crossplay is enabled or prefer to disable the feature, the method is different for each platform.

PS5 players should select Features from their console main menu, go to Settings, and finally switch the selection for Crossplay to 'Off' to disable it across all games. If you're on Xbox Series X|S, things are a bit more complicated. Press the Xbox button on your controller, then use the stick or directional pad to move all the way to the right and look for Settings under the Profile & System tab.

Under the General tab in Settings, look for Online safety & family. Click on Privacy & online safety, then Xbox privacy, then View details & customize, then Communication & multiplayer. The second setting there for "You can join cross-network play" is what you're looking for. Set it to 'Allow' to enable crossplay on all games or change it to 'Block' to disable crossplay.

If you're looking to upgrade from PS4 or Xbox One to their new gen counterparts, the way you purchased NBA 2K25 will determine whether you already have access to the new gen version. If you purchased NBA 2K25 digitally, you will automatically get a new gen and past gen copy on PS4 & PS5 or Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S.

Physical purchases of NBA 2K25 on PS4 include dual-gen entitlement through Sony's own upgrade mechanism, and Xbox One physical purchases include a dual-gen code in the box for that copy. However, if for any reason you wanted to access the past gen version, physical copies of NBA 2K25 on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S do not include their past gen counterparts. You'll get Cross-Progression across the same console family for MyTEAM and have a shared VC wallet, but no other game modes feature Cross-Progression for NBA 2K25.
