MultiVersus will introduce fun yet challenging ways to play the game when it launches on 28th May 2024 across console and PC. These include the multiple online modes such as Teams and Silly Queue, the Practice mode, and one new offering announced by developer Player First Games.

At launch, the free-to-play (F2P) fighting game will introduce the PvE mode, Rifts, which offers a unique way of exploring and experiencing the content. We've jumped into the chaos as this guide explains everything about Rifts, the new PvE mode, including how to join, progression, and rewards for MultiVersus.

What Is The Rifts PvE Mode For MultiVersus?

Developer Player First Games announced a new game mode called Rifts that will be included with the full release of MultiVersus. This new game mode is a player-versus-environment (PvE) activity that aims to "give players an entirely new way to experience" the game in addition to the competitive player-versus-player (PvP) modes it offers.

As detailed in their Developer Series post on the Rifts mode, each Rift features a series of encounters or challenges centered on a unique theme. Furthermore, these themes will be designed around "seasonal Attunements," for which the developer revealed their first Rift, which will be called Chaos, and themed after The Joker, one of the game's latest playable characters.

Each encounter during the Rift PvE mode will have several unique effects called mutators, which enhance combat capabilities inspired by the Rift's theme or "tweaked for maximum chaos." Some of the mutators revealed by the developer include Infinite Jumps and the Chicken Gauntlets mutator, in which the latter turns their hands into fried chicken.

Additionally, there will be some additional gameplay content for players to experience in Rifts at various nodes, such as mini-games. These can vary from a game of volleyball to a quick battle, which the developer will continue to design and incorporate more mini-games in future seasons.

Lastly, boss encounters will be present at various nodes that will challenge even the best players. According to the developer, "Each Rift will end with a Rift-themed boss battle aimed at challenging your abilities in a creative and fun way."

As for the boss encounters, defeating them is no easy feat at first, but learning the mode's gameplay mechanics and systems can help them secure the victory. In Rifts PvE mode, all players will have three slots, which allows them to equip unique power-up items called Gems that grant them bonuses, making nodes and boss encounters less challenging.

Gems come in three different variants: Defense, Offense, and Utility, each with a corresponding "Atunnement" for its given season, like the Chaos Attunement for MultiVersus Season 1. If players acquire multiple copies of the same Gem, they can use them to level up the Gem; however, different rarities can be acquired and equipped to their slots.

Acquiring Gems can be achieved through gameplay content or just playing MultiVersus, but they can also be earned by progressing with the season's Battle Pass. The developer has announced that returning players can get the Season 1 Battle Pass for free by logging into MultiVersus from 28th May 2024, while new players must buy the Battle Pass in-game.

How To Join And Play The Rifts PvE Mode For MultiVersus?

According to the recent Overview video for the PvE mode, Rifts, players can easily access and join this mode from the Home Screen. All they need to do is log into the game using their WB Games account, and they'll land on the Home screen, for which they can spot the "Enter Rifts" tab on the left side of the screen.

When joining Rifts for the first time, all players must complete the Tutorial Rift, which familiarises them with the gameplay mechanics and mode systems. After some time, they'll "graduate" to Seasonal Rifts, which feature a plethora of content, including stages, skins, characters, and mutators.

Players can participate in the Rifts mode solo or be paired with their friends or randomized players in online co-op, which can be rewarding for all players involved. Likewise, if they band with their friends online, all rewards earned will be shared amongst the players, so playing together can be more beneficial in the long term.

MultiVersus Rifts PvE Mode Progression And Rewards

Players who participate in this new PvE mode, Rifts, in MultiVersus at launch on 28th May 2024 will be able to earn and unlock various rewards through progression. Whether playing in the Rifts PvE mode as a solo player, with friends, or with other matched players in online co-op, their progression will get more challenging for every node.

As the developer continuously updates the Rifts mode with new challenges, more mini-games, and boss battles, there will be more rewards on offer by progressing with the nodes in completing "optional mission objectives." These "optional mission objectives" will grade players using a Star system, with the max capped at five Starts; each Star reward grants them more and better rewards.

Likewise, defeating bosses at greater difficulties will reward players, and remember that they can share rewards with players in online co-op. The developer also stated that as they advance through the nodes, they have the option to replay any node to gain a better Star rating and the rewards earned for that node.
