When it comes to bloody fighting games, there are very few that can challenge Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat was the original bloody fighter game and there were many at the time that considered this game series to be dangerous to society. Despite that opinion, Mortal Kombat has been going strong for 30 years now, and fans love the game.
With that being said, there are a lot of people who are waiting on Mortal Kombat 12. After all, Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019. It seems that NetherRealm Studios has all but confirmed that Mortal Kombat 12 is coming. On top of that, there is a chance that MK12 could be a reboot as well.
Will Mortal Kombat 12 Be A Reboot?
Recently, NetherRealm Studios sent out a video to their fans thanking them for 30 years of Mortal Kombat. The video features a lot of the developers who have helped over the years to make Mortal Kombat what it is. Towards the end of the video, we actually get a little teaser for what is coming next.
In the end, one of the co-creators of Mortal Kombat states that "We are not quite done yet." Given that this video was about Mortal Kombat, this all but confirms that Mortal Kombat 12 is coming. But during the seconds that follow, there is an animation of an hourglass dropping sand. To fans, this indicates that the next Mortal Kombat game could be a reboot.
When Will Mortal Kombat 12 Release?
Although the next game could be a reboot, it might not be called Mortal Kombat 12. After all, a reboot would mean the next game would probably take the old title as well. But that is assuming fans are correct, and the next game is indeed a reboot. There could be another explanation for the hourglass. Perhaps a character with the power to manipulate time could be coming.
Either way, fans should get excited as the next Mortal Kombat game should be coming sooner rather than later. With this teaser and the various slip-ups from NetherRealm, it is likely that the next Mortal Kombat game will come in late 2023 or early 2024. Once that happens, we will discover the meaning of the hourglass that was used in the video from NetherRealm.
