Marvel Rivals has become one of the year’s biggest hits, and with the surge of new players, toxicity was bound to follow. One of the first issues to arise is players berating support characters (Strategists) for not healing enough. In response, Strat players are speaking out, calling attention to the real challenges they face in these matches.

If you've played Overwatch 2 before, this issue may sound familiar, especially for Support players. In Marvel Rivals, specifically for Strategists (the Support/Healer role), players have been bombarded with messages in match chat demanding more healing, often in less-than-polite terms.

This issue is something Overwatch 2 players know all too well, and in Marvel Rivals, it's made worse by the lack of a role lock. Without a role lock, players may find themselves in a team with just one healer, and when you're that healer, things can get heated. A Reddit thread on the Marvel Rivals subreddit highlighted this issue.

Reddit user u/Optimal-Chapter-9444 posted a PSA titled "Stop b*tching about healing if you only have one support on your team." In the post, the user described being the only support in a match, constantly bombarded by DPS characters begging for heals.

The post sparked hundreds of comments from other support players sharing similar frustrations. Some noted that, despite providing over 10,000 healing in a game, they were still blamed by DPS mains for not healing enough. One comment humorously pointed out, “It’s always the DPS instalock that runs into a 1v4 and blames the healers,” which is a scenario eerily similar to what Overwatch 2 players experience.

If Overwatch 2's toxic player behavior is anything to go by, it's unlikely these issues will disappear anytime soon. To improve things, Marvel Rivals could benefit from a role lock, incentives for playing support, or adding more support characters, as the current roster is small compared to Duelists - a criticism raised in our review.

Hopefully, NetEase will address this issue soon, as it makes playing support in Marvel Rivals more mentally draining. If the devs take action, Strategists might find a bit more relief in their next match.
