It’s no exaggeration to say that Marvel Rivals launched to massive success—both for its impressive content and its remarkably smooth, bug-free release. However, like any game, issues can surface over time, and fans have recently uncovered a troubling problem with Marvel Rivals falsely banning players.
While this could have posed a significant setback, the developers have already stepped in, acknowledging the issue and promising to take swift action to resolve it.
Marvel Rivals Devs Acknowledge False Ban Issues and Promise a Swift Fix
Like any major hero shooter, Marvel Rivals isn’t immune to the challenges posed by cheaters. For anyone familiar with Overwatch 2, you’ll know how these issues can persist - even at the highest competitive ranks. Naturally, banning cheaters is the best course of action, but some players have noticed that those using compatibility layer programs, like CrossOver, have been mistakenly flagged as cheaters, resulting in unwarranted bans.
Community Manager James has made a statement regarding false positive bans that had been directed at players using compatibility layer programs like CrossOver to run Marvel Rivals on unsupported operating systems. These bans have been identified and lifted. pic.twitter.com/Ch59Rahkrf

For those unfamiliar, compatibility layer programs allow players to run games on unsupported operating systems, such as Mac or Linux. Unfortunately, due to this bug, players relying on these programs have faced bans across the board. While this could have alienated a portion of the player base, the developers have already stepped in to address the issue.
As highlighted by Miller Rose on X (formerly Twitter), the community manager for Marvel Rivals responded to the situation on the game’s official Discord channel. They apologized to affected players, stating: "We have identified the specific reasons behind these false bans and have compiled a list of affected players. We lifted these bans and want to express our heartfelt apologies for the inconvenience this has caused."
Additionally, NetEase confirmed they’ve pinpointed the root cause of these false flags and implemented adjustments behind the scenes to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future. Players who continue facing bans due to CrossOver or similar programs are encouraged to contact customer support through the in-game menu or via Discord to appeal their cases.
Overall, we have to give credit to NetEase for acting quickly to identify and resolve the issue. They not only fixed the problem but also established clear communication with the player base, addressing concerns promptly. It’s also worth recognizing their efforts to hear out the community - even if compatibility layer users represent a smaller portion of the fanbase. Kudos to NetEase for listening and responding to their players!
