When you're on the ropes in Madden 25, few things make a bigger immediate impact than an interception. Getting a player into position to successfully intercept the ball isn't easy, but it's something players can improve on over time to become truly deadly on defense. Here, we'll outline exactly how to intercept the ball in Madden 25 and hopefully take it to the house.
How to Get an Interception in Madden 25
Defense wins championships, and that's because turnovers win games. Even when your opponent is trucking and in the lead, snatching the ball out of the air can both set you up for an easy score and demoralize their quarterback. Once you've got a grasp on the basic Madden 25 controls, it's time to start leveling up your in-game skills. Even players using the lowest difficulty setting in Madden 25 will need decent timing and a bit of luck to score an interception.
The first step is learning to even notice when an interception is possible. For players who aren't super adept at controlling the secondary, stick to one of your defensive linemen and plan to switch when the moment is right. As soon as you see the ball headed into the air, try to recognize which defender is closest to where it's going. Switch to them as quickly as possible, and then you want to press Y (on Xbox) or Triangle (on PlayStation) to attempt an interception.
Learning the timing on this is going to take time, and switching to a defender then making the wrong move can be disastrous. If you're not used to switching, you might veer out of coverage and leave someone more open for a big play. Sticking to the defensive line is usually the safest call, but it will lean on your player's ratings which may or may not be strong in the secondary.
The best way to practice this skill is to head into Mini Games, a new addition in Madden 25 thanks in part to those being included in College Football 25. Try stuff like Coverage Skeleton and DB Battle with multiple reps until you're more regularly getting interceptions or at least swatting the ball away to deny the catch. From there, you can head to full team practice or hone your skills in Superstar Mode as a cornerback or linebacker.
