Halo Infinite hasn't lately been on the right side of the spectrum. On the one hand, the upcoming Season 2: Lone Wolf has new additions that are worth getting excited about though, on the other hand, many believe that these new additions are just not enough. The lack of playable Elites is one of them.
343 Industries recently laid out a tentative Halo Infinite 2022 roadmap that dissects everything planned for Season 2 and overviews what fans can expect in Season 3. Sadly, for those who were expecting playable Elites or were hoping to play as anyone other than Spartans this year, 343 has explicitly mentioned that it won't be possible.
When will Elites be playable in Halo Infinite?
Elites have been playable in past Halo games, so it makes sense that veteran fans would want them to return in Halo Infinite. Game modes like Invasion from Halo: Reach put a team of Spartans against a team of Elites, something that fans want to see in Halo Infinite as well.
However, as mentioned before, 343 has no plans to bring playable Elites and presumably game modes like Invasion to Halo Infinite anytime soon, if at all. Replying to a fan on Twitter, 343 Industries' Community Director explained what the studio's current priorities are for the time being.
Jarrad wrote, " I applaud your passion gusto! But I will give it to you straight - We have a lot of fundamental issues to go after. We may eventually get playable Elites but sorry to say it's not a current priority or actively being worked on right now."
While this may seem disappointing to fans who were expecting playable Elites this year, the silver lining is that there's still a possibility of them coming to Halo Infinite in the future.
At the time of this writing, Halo Infinite does lack fundamental features like campaign co-op and forge mode, which many believe should have been part of the game since launch. While it's reassuring to see that 343 is dedicated to bringing these much-requested features to Halo Infinite in 2022, they won't be enough to justify the lack of overall content draught that the game currently faces.

While Halo Infinite's 2022 roadmap may look bleak, there will be a few interesting new additions that should excite fans. Stuff like the new multiplayer narrative events that will serve as an "evolving Seasonal storyline for Spartans," something that may slightly resonate with Destiny 2's seasonal story structure.
Thankfully, fans won't have to wait much longer to get their hands on brand new Halo Infinite content as Season 2: Lone Wolves launches on 3rd May 2022.
