The Five Nights at Freddy's movie has smashed box office records and impressed long-time fans and those new to the series alike. Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon, who also worked on the movie, responded to its success in a 1 November Reddit post - his first public announcement since its release.
"Thanks, everyone for making the opening weekend such a big success," Cawthon wrote. "It was beyond my wildest dreams. I do read the comments and critiques, so while I'm glad most people had a great time at the movies, I'm definitely paying attention, and I wanted you all to know that."
Cawthon explained that he went to multiple showings of his own movie, wearing a disguise in the form of glasses and a beard. "No one recognized me, as I expected," Cawthon said. Despite the fact that no one recognized Cawthon, he described several hilarious interactions with fans in the theater as he attended the showings.
"On Thursday I went to the very first showing at 2 PM; not many people were there. But just before the movie started a teenage boyfriend and girlfriend walked in; the girlfriend was dressed as Toy Chica, and they sat right next to me," Cawthon explained.
"She was obviously a super-fan (him not so much), and I heard her say as she walked in, "What if Scott Cawthon was in here?" A few seconds later after they sat down, I heard her whisper, "That kind of looks like Scott Cawthon.", gesturing to me. He glanced over at me and then whispered back to her, "Dear, he's old." To that, I say- Two things can be true at the same time.":
Cawthon's interactions with fans only got more hilarious and bizarre, with one group simply getting up and moving away from him after sitting next to him in the theater. "I swear I put on deodorant... maybe not enough?" Cawthon joked.
With the widespread success of Cawthon's first Five Nights at Freddy's movie, many fans are wondering if a sequel might be coming in the future. While Cawthon himself hasn't announced anything regarding a potential Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Movie, it seems pretty likely that one could be coming, as multiple people working on the first film have expressed interest in making a follow up.
