G2 Esports CEO Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago has formally resigned following massive backlash after partying with controversial internet sensation Andrew Tate. This resignation is a shock for G2 fans as the founder was a broadly loved and respected individual in the esports community.
On 23rd September 2022, Ocelote announced that he would be stepping down as G2 Esports' CEO in a three-minute video detailing his journey growing the company and his wonderful memories with the organization. However, Ocelote hasn't revealed his plans for the future beyond G2 Esports.
Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Steps Down As G2 Esports CEO
It’s a sad time for fans as the organization's cornerstone has resigned. Most people familiar with G2 Esports acknowledge that Ocelote has been its biggest fan. As a result, the organization won’t ever be the same after such an enthusiastic, positive, and driving force that literally made and cultivated G2 Esports from the ground up has left.
In the video, Ocelete detailed his resignation and reminisced the adventure of growing an esports organization. He also thanked everyone who's helped in the process of turning G2 Esports into a world-recognized organization.

Ocelote said, “My time at G2 Esports has come to an end, which means that I’ll be stepping down from my CEO position. I know it might be a shocker for most of you. This is a very hard ending to what has been otherwise a deeply meaningful and joyful experience.”
The now ex-G2 Esports CEO continued, “I’m very grateful for all these years together. [...] I want to thank all of the fans; I want to thank the sponsors that made our livelihood possible. I want to thank all the investors that trusted me early on with their money."
"I want to thank all the publishers that trusted me with putting teams together for their games and allowing me to play in their leagues. You guys have been fantastic to me over the last seventeen years, and I’ll never forget it,” Ocelote added.
Why Did Ocelote Resign From G2 Esports?
Ocelote’s resignation comes after he posted a video on Twitter celebrating with the controversial influencer Andrew Tate, who’s been despised and banned from Facebook, Instagram, and multiple other platforms. The kickboxer-turned-influencer has been widely-disliked for the past few months after controversy arose about his alleged misogyny and sexism.

After posting the video, Ocelote was reprimanded online for aligning with Andrew Tate’s views and supporting him by partying with the influencer. Following the controversy, the former CEO responded online, stating, “Nobody will ever be able to police my friendships. I draw my line here. I party with whoever the f*ck I want.”

I draw my line here
I party with whoever the fuck I want
This comment insinuated for most that Ocelote was completely fine spending time with Andrew Tate, an influencer who’s gotten a bad rap for his many controversial takes. So naturally, this didn’t sit well for many, especially after G2 Esports rostered an all-female League of Legends team a few weeks before the controversy.
Immediately after taking a bold, strong stance, Ocelote was swiftly canceled online. In a follow-up Tweet, he addressed the controversy and apologized for his mistakes. But this wasn’t enough to heal the damage he’d done to his brand and G2 Esports.
Many G2 fans were let down this weekend which created confusion about what I stand for.

It has always been my consistent target to stand for absolute equality of opportunity regardless of who you are or where you come from, which is what gaming is all about. (1/2)
G2 Esports lost sponsorships and Valorant franchising slot, presumably due to the controversy. Later, on 19th September 2022, the esports organization released a statement informing fans that Ocelote would take eight weeks' leave as CEO.

But it seems that wasn’t the end; four days later, Ocelote submitted his resignation and stepped down from the organization, stating he takes “full responsibility for everything that’s happened.”
In one of his last notes, he hoped the world remembers him “for the good things” and not just his recent controversy involving Tate. Ocelote hopes his “legacy” in esports continues through G2 Esports.
