With the arrival of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, players around the world are working towards unlocking every last member of the game's expansive roster. While many can be purchased in the store or unlocked through regular episode battles, it takes something slightly different to unlock Turles in Sparking Zero. If you're looking to bring in a fascinating villain from Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might, it's not as difficult as you might guess.
How to Unlock Turles in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero
There are a handful of different ways that characters in Sparking Zero can be unlocked. The first few which players are likely to notice is that many Episode Battles have character unlocks, and there are several found at the in-game shop. Fortunately, you won't have to spend any Zeni or wait for a high level to unlock Turles.
Instead, players need to head into Custom Battle from the Main Menu. Open up Bonus Battles, and on the second row you'll spot one called "Avenger Returns." This is just a standard one-on-one battle between Gohan and Turles. Once you defeat Turles as Gohan in this Bonus Battle, one of the rewards will be to unlock Turles. You'll also receive 20,000 Zeni and some Player EXP.
Who is Turles in Dragon Ball Z?
While he may seem unfamiliar to some fans, especially those who have primarily seen just Dragon Ball Super, Turles is a classic villain from the movie Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might. While the film was originally released in Japan as long ago as 1990, most American fans will have first experienced it through the Funimation or Ocean dubs that released in 1997.
For the initial Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z that aired in 1997, Tree of Might was also edited into a trio of episodes. A few years later, Toonami ran it as a movie and it aired more than a half-dozen times between 1999 and 2001. These versions were heavily edited with blood being removed along with several other changes to reduce the violence shown on television.
As for Turles himself, he's the primary villain in Tree of Might. Turles was originally a member of the Saiyan Army when they were controlled by the Frieza Force, but Turles went rogue and gathered his own henchmen into the Turles Crusher Corps. Since Tree of Might, Turles has made multiple game appearances including Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in addition to appearing in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes series.
