With Summer Game Fest looming, there's plenty of anticipation about which games might take the spotlight. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is due to be a big part of the Bandai Namco showcase, and there are rumblings of a beloved Budokai Tenkaichi feature coming back. Early trailers have showcased fantastic gameplay and an extensive roster, but Dragon Ball Sparking Zero needs this rumored addition to live up to the legacy it's continuing.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero reveal set for Summer Game Fest

There have been a smattering of trailers along with various rumors as fans grow excited for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero to bring back the iconic Budokai Tenkaichi series. One of the earliest leaks with multiple game details included word that split-screen was not going to be back, and the primary cause seemed to be difficulties in implementation that are rooted in the console creators themselves.

While unofficial, speculation was that split-screen is intentionally difficult to utilize on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S so that the console manufacturers can motivate gamers to purchase additional consoles for multiplayer. The newly added PlayStation Store listing may have debunked that fear, as many have noticed the game is listed as being for "1-2 players,"  "Supports up to 2 online players with PS Plus," with "Online play optional."

This is far from confirmation, but the listing going live may have been in anticipation of a full trailer at Summer Game Fest that also reveals a release date and sends pre orders live for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. That step is often accompanied by a press release outlining core game features which could confirm whether split-screen is among them.

The Budokai Tenkaichi series thrived on the ability to be a local multiplayer party game with split-screen, and getting that feature back would go a long way to recapturing the magic of this franchise. Even if split-screen doesn't return, we can expect some exciting Dragon Ball Sparking Zero news as the most recent trailer confirmed a Summer Game Fest reveal is on deck.
