Dead by Daylight's Hour of the Witch chapter introduced just one new survivor to the game, Mikaela Reid, with a brand new type of perk: boon totems. Boon totems totally switched up the game's meta, allowing Mikaela Reid to bewitch trials with zones that benefit survivors to the max.
But with the chapter in the game for a little over two years now, how have Mikaela and her perks faired? Let's take a deeper look at Dead by Daylight's Hour of the Witch chapter, including whether it's worth a buy.
Dead by Daylight's Hour of The Witch Chapter Review
With Dead by Daylight's Hour of the Witch paragraph chapter featuring just one character, Mikaela Reid, she and her three perks are the stars of the whole show. Mikaela herself is a practicing witch and worked at a cafe before she was taken into the Fog. Many fans came to love Mikaela and her design since it breaks the mold and adds some fantasy elements to survivors that are usually reserved for killers. Her lobby animations of her flipping through a mystical spellbook are endearing, and it's fun to feel like you have a "power" much like killers when you're able to make totems into boons that help your whole team out.
That said, upon her release, Mikaela's perks were some of the strongest in the game. The since-nerfed Boon: Circle of Healing allowed survivors within its range to heal themselves without the help of another survivor, with speeds increased up to 100%. This allowed survivors to rapidly patch themselves up after getting injured in a chase, making it one of the strongest perks of all time, when it was in this state. Survivors could combine this with her other boon perk, Boon: Shadow Step, to hide all survivors' scratch marks within a certain range, creating zones that absolutely shut down the killer's power to find and take down survivors.
Mikaela's last perk, Clairvoyance, has some use but isn't as strong as the others. It allows players to see objectives all around the map after cleansing a totem, provided they're empty-handed. The pretty cool part of this ability, though, is that it can be controlled at will.
Since the Hour of the Witch chapter release, though, these perks have seen some pretty substantial nerfs. At this point, Mikaela Reid's perks are quite average rather than the must-haves they once were. Boon: Circle of Healing has been entirely reworked, no longer allowing players to heal themselves and instead just boosting healing speeds in a certain area. It is much less commonly used. Boon: Shadow Step remains quite strong, but it isn't always game-changing like Boon: Circle of Healing once was. Clairvoyance was just alright on release, and it's the same now.
